We were treating my brother-in-law to birthday dinner here because it is a special place. To start, something I've never seen before: prix fixe with a choice of 2, 3, or 4 courses. The most expensive is $59 -- very reasonable, especially for Stratford. There are lots of choices to make! My appetizer was amazing: chicken liver foie gras mousse... More

We ate at the Prune for our fourth visit before the Theatre. We were booked for 5.45 but arrived at 5.30. The complementary in house sparkling water is wonderful. The food was superb as always but this is the second time that we found the service so stressful. They have to feed everyone basically at the same time and everyone... More

Could definitely stand to have some fabric paneling on the walls to absorb some of the sound. Too loud for the atmosphere they're trying to achieve. It's clear that they have a full cast of waitstaff each responsible for their separate tasks, but make sure they communicate as to who is responsible for what, so that diners aren't feeling hounded.... My daughter and I ate at The Prune in Stratford on Friday, August 21st, 2014. I honestly didn't think they could top our first visit, a couple of years ago, but they did. We were seated promptly and offered sparkling or still water, and an amuse bouche. For appetizers, my daughter had the chicken liver mousse and I had the... More

We had a birthday celebration dinner at the (Old) Prune. The service and atmosphere was fantastic. The staff is very informative and attentive! The food was delicious - two of us had the Cod and two of us had the rib steak...well presented and prepared. We had the Chocolate Bread Pudding and Cherry Pie - both very good.

Four of us returned for our yearly visit and once again found it extraordinary. Food, service, atmosphere, all were superb. The most amazing, however, was the black cod, enjoyed by three of us, and the fourth, having a very good hangar steak, still wished he had ordered the cod. We had 6:00 reservations as did almost everyone in the place,... More

Our son gifted us with a meal at the Old Prune. This is a restaurant with pride in offering Haute Cuisine. The meals are Preis Fixe based on the number of courses ordered. Service is superb, attentive knowledgeable staff. Each course is handsomely presented and of course is well prepared. This is not a restaurant for casual dining. This is... More

We spent four days in Stratford and the (Old) Prune was by far our favourite restaurant. We were going to "Crazy for You" that night and decided to have an early (but nice) dinner before. I had the cod and that was absolutely amazing. I still talk about it three weeks later. My husband had the chicken and was equally... More

We chose The Prune for our "splurge" dinner during our recent visit to Stratford. It did not disappoint. Service was first rate in every way. Dishes were well paced, glasses were always refilled and the items on the menu were clearly explained to us. The Prune has a pre-fix set up where you can order 2, 3, or 4 courses... More

A "best choice" restaurant in a city filled with theater-going visitors seeking memorable dining at pre-theater hours. Under new management, the beautifully adapted old-house restaurant shines in every category. The prix fixe menu offers well selected choices: our table tried most of them, and all were outstanding. My sequence of vari-colored beet salad, black cod, and blueberries with ice cream... More
