Great food is about passion and our chefs have it in spades. Our kitchen team draws inspiration from a combination of local, seasonal items with a balance of fine products imported from Quebec and both Canadian coasts. When the delivery comes from the hands of the person who grows the vegetables, raises the pigs, milks the cow or catches the fish, you really start to appreciate the hard work that goes into making things taste really good! Mercer Hall is the perfect backdrop for any occasion featuring local craft beers on tap, Ontario wines and innovative cocktails.

A bit of a bar setting, but really good food

Since we didn't have a show that night, we were able to get a 7:45 reservation. Otherwise, like just about everywhere in Stratford during theatre season, it's tough to get in. There wasn't a huge range of options, but the Thai chicken I had was extremely flavourful and moist. The other dishes I... read more

We had excellent service between a 2:00 matinee and an 8:00 show, despite our lack of reservations. After a slight wait, we were given an outdoor table with an excellent server named Myron. The wine list is innovative and reasonably priced. The chilled cucumber soup was just gorgeous, quite tasty and a little spicy. The salmon sashimi appetizer was also... More

When I’m in Stratford, I often go to Mercer Hall for a bite to eat and I recognize many of the staff. So, I was surprised last week to see no familiar faces. And the menu was the next surprise – changed completely from the past. The place is under new management and the food shows a great deal more... More

Thankfully, we had made a reservation for our pre-theatre dinner, as the place was almost full when we got there at 5:30! We were a little concerned about the service as they seemed to be a bit short-staffed. But everyone appeared to be hustling and our fears were unfounded. As we had both had a late lunch, we decided to... More

For pre-theatre appetizers, try Mercer Hall on Ontario St. The smoked salmon at the next table looked delectable. At my table the puréed vegetable dips, served in three bones cut in half, were perfect: light, savoury and filling, especially with a glass of chilled chablis. You'll want to take a leisurely stroll afterward and head for your evening play, refreshed... More

The food was terrific. The service very friendly. We were unlucky enough to be there when a pipe burst in the kitchen /bar. Accidents like this happen. What distinguishes a restaurant like this from many others is how the restaurant handles a disaster like this. Mercer Hall handled this with grace and efficiency. Yes the service was a tad slow... We had lunch at Mercer Hall. Very good, fresh selections. Lovely atmosphere. The staff was great. The patio looked a bit too sunny, so we stayed inside. We enjoyed a nice lunch in a quiet, cool location. Refreshing.

A happy serendipity lead to a marvelous new find for us theatre goers! We have tripped the light fantastic at restaurants like Rundles, the Old Prune, the Sunroom, and Church over the years that we have attended the Stratford Shakespeare festival. One night this season, We suddenly found ourselves with time for dinner between our matinee and our 8 o'clock... More

This is a new restaurant, and charms with its quiet elegance, attentive service and good food. The menu was creative, and we both were able to chose dishes that were unusual, and well presented. My companion ordered a dish with Montforte Haloumi cheese, which was not available (we later went to the dairy outlet and they explained that it was... More

Thank you so very much for your wonderful review. The Halloumi salad is one of my favourites and I am glad to know that it works with other cheeses. I will have to try that! We look forward to seeing you on your return visits. More

Very good whiskey and local craft brew selection. Unfortunately the food has become much more expensive since the new ownership took over. As well, cannot get anything but a set menu until after 9pm. Might be good for theatre goers, but not the local crowd.

Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed our craft beer selection. Keep an eye on our further expansion of our cocktail and beer menus as we have some great additions coming. We do change our menu seasonally and during August and September we find it necessary because of volume to offer a prix fixe menu to... More
