Amazing Food, Horrible Service

Fabulous salads and desserts. My husband's entree was acceptable but my fish was overdone. We had tickets for a play and I didn't want to be late. Still regret not sending my fish back....the bill for two, including a drink each and tip was almost $170. For that kind of money, the fish should have been perfect.

The place is acoustically "bright" to begin with, and the manager refused to ask a very, very loud group of inebriated diners to tone it down. As a result, we were unable to speak to one another during dinner. Which dramatically reduced the quality of the experience. The menu is small, but reasonable as a gustatory experience. The preparation and... More

Bijou has long been a favorite restaurant in Stratford. Aaron and Bronwen made it an incredibly good experience - his food was terrific and she always remembered us, even if we only came once a year. This past year has offered two less than stellar evenings, though, now that it has changed hands. It starts with the greeting - no... More

I can't believe Bijou is not top of the list. We dined there last night. Very attentive service, knowledgable wine pairing advice was just the start. The food makes you want to close your eyes, to allow your taste buds full control over all the beautiful flavours happening in your mouth. That's the first time in years I have experienced... More

we were pleased with the choices and the food, but the restaurant was noisy and the staff appeared harried. the choices are on a blackboard and constantly changing so you have to go up and check it from time to time, and the place is quite narrow!

Had dinner at Bijou last Saturday night before going to the Stratford Festival. The wait staff was attentive and provided helpful recommendations on that night's menu. Both of us enjoyed our selections very much. For my main I chose the scallops which were cooked perfectly. My only criticism is that the accompanying vegetables were rather sparse and there was no... We have dined at the Bijou several times in the past and have considered it a fine dining establishment. This time, the only thing that was "fine dining" was the $168.00 charge for the two of us. My wife's salad offering was a couple of braised eggplant slices covered with sprouts and a glob of goat cheese. My tuna and... More

Bijou continues to delight in terms of their food. We had excellent flank steak and rainbow trout entrees, and everything that was served around us looked equally good. Service was prompt, especially for pre-theatre dining. Lovely hideaway location. But they have a problem which will only increase over time as the population ages. I understand the French blackboard system for... More
