Excellent Indian cuisine!

If you want really good Indian food look no further than Shafali on Dalhousie Street. We had 4 people in our party and each one of us ordered a dish that we shared at the table. The Chicken Korma was creamy and yummy and the Butter Chicken superb too. The Beef Curry had lots of nice flavour and the... read more

I went with my friend to eat on a week night. There were only 3 other tables occupied. The server was friendly and cracked a few jokes. They have their own naan bread oven and we ordered a fresh garlic naan, so good! All the spices in the korma chicken and cury was so good. If you like true indian... More

This has to be the best Indian restaurant in Ontario. We have dined in many, in various cities but this one was amazing. We were in Ottawa for a week and found this place on our first evening there and was totally surprised at the flavors of the dishes we chose. We liked it so much that we went back... More

Me and my friend decided to try Shafali because of the great reviews and it was such a disappointment. 1- Waited 10 minutes to get acknowledged by the waitress 2- We didn't get the right drinks we ordered. 3- My friend asked the waitress if the level of heat can be adjusted and she didn't seem to understand what he... The good: Food is very tasty. Service was super-friendly, with acceptable wait-time. Pricing, considering the massive choice in the neighbourhood, was reasonable. The bad: I prefer my curries more on flavourful than hot...out of five I'd rate Shafali's four. Butter chicken had a high sauce-to-chicken ratio. Recommended for those with high tolerance for curry heat!

The service was quite bad as it took a very long time for the food. There was another guest who waited so long that he eventually walked out of the restaurant. Once the finally did arrive it was quite good. However when the bill came there were multiple mistakes and it took the waiter 3 tries to get it right.

The Shafali is just out of the way enough that we probably wouldn't have happened across it. (By "out of the way" I mean a block further than I had gone market exploring.) But a friend had recommended it, and good Indian food is a treat, so here we were. It's actually right next door to the ping-pong bar my... More

Arriving for a rather early dinner, the appetizer plate was delicious, but cheap (one of each item, cut in half); the Aloo Gobi was very salt; the Butter Chicken was watery (not rich and creamy), and the Naan tasted like yeast! The rice was cold and dry. Nothing was fresh :-( Also: the staff yelled back and forth to one... More

To be honest from the various reviews listed I was not sure what to expect. We arrived at 7 on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was quite busy....only real disappointment was the Premium Beer which was Bud Lite! The curries were well prepared and you could definitely tell the chicken had been cooked in the sauce rather than sauce... More
