Great food, amazing location

The good: Food is very tasty. Service was super-friendly, with acceptable wait-time. Pricing, considering the massive choice in the neighbourhood, was reasonable. The bad: I prefer my curries more on flavourful than hot...out of five I'd rate Shafali's four. Butter chicken had a high sauce-to-chicken ratio. Recommended for those with high tolerance for curry heat!

The service was quite bad as it took a very long time for the food. There was another guest who waited so long that he eventually walked out of the restaurant. Once the finally did arrive it was quite good. However when the bill came there were multiple mistakes and it took the waiter 3 tries to get it right.

The Shafali is just out of the way enough that we probably wouldn't have happened across it. (By "out of the way" I mean a block further than I had gone market exploring.) But a friend had recommended it, and good Indian food is a treat, so here we were. It's actually right next door to the ping-pong bar my... More

Arriving for a rather early dinner, the appetizer plate was delicious, but cheap (one of each item, cut in half); the Aloo Gobi was very salt; the Butter Chicken was watery (not rich and creamy), and the Naan tasted like yeast! The rice was cold and dry. Nothing was fresh :-( Also: the staff yelled back and forth to one... More

To be honest from the various reviews listed I was not sure what to expect. We arrived at 7 on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was quite busy....only real disappointment was the Premium Beer which was Bud Lite! The curries were well prepared and you could definitely tell the chicken had been cooked in the sauce rather than sauce... More

The mango lassie was good- that was only reason I gave two stars. The sag paneer was horrid, bland. The rice was also tasteless. My brother was asked if he wanted naan with his meal- it was 3$ extra;though fresh, was not very good either. Save your money and go somewhere else for Indian food.

With great Anticipation and a recommendation from the concierge at our hotel,we "dined" here. First of all we had reservations and we had to wait for our table..ok....We sat down and immediately ordered samosa which arrived within 20 min..We proceeded to wait one hour for anything else(other than copious amounts of water) to arrive! Even the one mango lashi took... More

In Ottawa for business, it looked like it would rain so I popped into Shafali, near my hotel. For a restaurant that had less than 2 dozen people in it, I was surprised that the service was so slow. The food was good, would have preferred it a bit spicier though.

This is the place to go for great curry in Ottawa. The staff are friendly and the food great. We had the Butter Chicken and the Rogan Josh. The restaurant was busy and but the food made the wait well worth it.
