The best dining experience in ages

From start to finish, this was an exceptional experience. We loved the ambiance of the upstairs dining room, cozy yet not crowded. The service and food were beyond expectation. This is our new favourite spot in the city.

We were really excited to eat here based on reviews. Our family of 5 had an early reservation. We were taken upstairs to the very back corner of the restaurant, when the restaurant was empty except for a very large group of boisterous women seated beside us. We assumed it was likely because we had our children with us, and... More

First off, we found the service outstanding - the right balance of attentiveness without being obtrusive. We started with the fig salad. The figs were nice, the dressing wasn't too heavy, but some of the lettuce was pretty sad and wilted. The meatballs were drenched in a tomato sauce that was pretty plain tasting and was lukewarm and parts were... More

Thanks for a great evening. I love that your wine is not too expensive so you are more inclined to try many different types with different foods. We enjoyed several sharing plates and really enjoyed our waiter's recommendations for wine parings. Excellent service, attention to detail, excellent food. Overall a great experience. I will return.

I went with my husband today. The food was tasty but very greasy., The portions were small and the price relatively high, We went to try something different, The service was great. We were told that the menu changes frequently, but our experience this time was not as expected and we will not be returning.

I had heard great things about Play from numerous people so I decided to give it a try and I really don't know why I waited so long. The drink selection was extensive, if you are looking for wine this place probably has it. Beer offerings were very good as well. The food was impressive, I was very happy with... More

Play is still one of my favourite places in town for tapas and wine. Although it is on York street, which is pretty busy and has tons of restaurants to offer solid competition, this place still brings it. Their pork belly is superb to say the least, and service is always at the top of the game. Servers know what... More

This is my favourite restaurant in Ottawa. My husband and I visit at least once a season to see what's on the menu. We've always had excellent service from enthusiastic, knowledgable staff. The food rarely disappoints -- I once went back four times in a month to have this Thai-style soup with soba noodles. If you can, get a seat... More

I have read a few reviews of Play lately suggesting that the "thrill is gone". I categorically disagree (with my apologies to BB King). I visited Play for lunch on a snowy Ottawa afternoon (the norm more than the exception this year - hurry summer). STILL GREAT! The boar sausage with bourbon, mustard and sauerkraut - delicious. The pork belly... More

This is sort of a small plates restaurant by the owner of Beckta. Some of the plates are small and others are just fine for a lunch size. You can get two plates for $22 for lunch which is a bit pricey and more food I would eat but some of the plates are really small and would leave me... More
