We stopped in (and were not very well dressed). The hostess said they were quite booked but we could have a seat on the bar stools outside the open kitchen. The food and service were excellent. Keane made great suggestions and was very pleasant. He was there exactly when we needed him to be. The restaurant serves small bites so... More

I have been going to Play on a fairly regular basis over the past few years. It has never disappointed me! The menu changes are always welcome, the food is prepared to perfection, and the ability to share it with your dinner partner makes it fun and interesting. Finally, the service is outstanding, the servers are knowledgable, always professional and... More

Friends warned us that Play was not romantic and shouldn't be counted on to satisfy the diner in search of a real meal. Maybe that's true on both counts although my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Play. Service was attentive and prompt (despite the fact that we had a trainee waiter) and the food was everything we expected and more.... More

Play's concept is "small plates" - I didn't know what that meant either but it's a bit more substantial than tapas... kind of a DIY tasting menu. A completely civilised way to eat, in my opinion. I turned up with two friends without booking. Once we'd got past the surly teenager on the door (who seemed to be doing us... More

The Play concept is centered around a long list of small plates - and an equally long list of wines. It's a kind of tapas place, although not really Spanish food. I was there with a group of colleagues and enjoyed the place tremendously. The food and wine were excellent and so was the service. The place itself is stylish... More

On Thursday, July 10th, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Play. The small plate menu is most interesting, and each bite was pure enjoyment. Attention to detail and flavour was evident. Our server Erin was outstanding, and guided us through the menu, with intelligent conversation about flavours and wine pairings. Excellent value, 2 plates for $22 lunch special. Absolutely outstanding.... More

As Ottawans, Play is our absolute favourite restaurant in the city, and probably the world. That may sound like hyperbole but we love how different the food is each time we visit and are always surprised and delighted by the combinations of flavours and textures that they come up with. Every outing is a unique experience, and the staff always... More

This was was first time at Plat Food and Wine and it was very enjoyable. This is a "small plate" concept restaurant so you need to order a couple of options and you can't go wrong with any choice. Our table had a number of different items and shared around - all was great. Great wine list and a good... More

After my first day at a new job my partner took me here for dinner and drinks. It was a great place to celebrate! Service was excellent, everyone was so friendly. The charcuterie and cheese plates were excellent with some nice wine. We ended up sharing the boar sausage (with a great sauerkraut), frites, cauliflower, pork belly (my favourite!). All... More

My wife and I went based on the excellent Trip Advisor ratings and came away underwhelmed. The service was great - we came without lunch reservations and a baby in a stroller and the waitresses removed some chairs and had us seated quickly near the front of the restaurant. We had steak frites, boar sausage, gnocchi, and scallops. The steak... More
