Great place

We loved this place. The food, wine, draft beer, service, and location were all perfect. We had beef laab, asparagus salad, gnocchi, cheese plate and all were tasty. Highly recommended.

The dining rooms are crowded with very small tables, there are 2 levels to this restaurant and I'm not sure which level is better to sit on. It's difficult to eat plates that are meant for sharing on such small tables. The food itself can be very hit and miss.

Good wine. Good food. Nice stop in the market. Nice local food including some scrumptious cheeses! Yum

I keep coming back to Play when I'm in Ottawa. This was my fourth visit in three trips to the capital. It's a small plates restaurant, but they often have specials if you order two plates. When you order multiple plates, they bring them out separately, so you're not overwhelmed by too many plates. They have a good selection of... More

Bad Ambiance - Bad Food - Service. As the title indicates, this place is consistently awful. As to ambiance, it has undersized tables place too closely together. When this is combined with hard surfaces throughout, noise levels are intolerable. You wind up shouting to anyone that you try to converse with. Service start out O.K.. However, as the place got... very good eclectic menu- servings are larger than standard tapas (they said 32-3 plates, but the 2 i got were so filling I couldnt imagine ordering 3!) I got the carrot coconut soup (a lil spicy- interesting and good!) and the steak with mushrooms and fries (very filling and very good!) And i know this isnt a big deal, but... More

Went to Play again yesterday for lunch after my daughters graduation. Knocked it out of the park, again! Between the four of us we sampled some tried and tested favourites (flank steak, belly pork) and some new creation - marinaded figs, red snapper cerviche. All excellent and i might rate the marinaded fig as the best plate of food I... More

What a great little gem in the byward market area - delicious food fantastic service, good selection of wine. Large areas for group setting. Staff is fantastic, well worth the trip the food was delicious. Share if you can so you get more bites of the little plates. The fig salad is fantastic.

I'm truly amazed on how people rate restaurants! This is average at best! The staff was fine, but not great. The meal was far below expectations. The pork belly was tough and flavorless . The pickerel was overcooked. And the tempura broccoli was not edible. The fig salad was good, and the gnocchi was ok. I'm giving this a three... More

The atmosphere is a little cold and sterile but the food is good and thoughtfully prepared. Go for lunch to take advantage of the combo deal.
