Lunchtime difference

Discovered by accident on a hot day. Once again the friendly Canadian welcome. Food on offer is served with imagination and full flavour. The sort of place to be relaxed in.

Could be fabulous, and seems like many people have really liked the experience. However, in our group of four the starters were only so-so (smelts, perogies and poutine). The earlier charcuterie was better, but when the main courses came it was again quite disappointing. The pork was highly over-salty, and undistinguished, and served with cold gnocchi. The vegetarian dish was... More

We were in the city for a week and I wanted to try the place after I saw a picture on Alton Brown's feed. We went in about 6:30 on a Wednesday. We were seated at the bar which was surprising because they had an open table. We ordered drinks. I really enjoyed their Old Fashioned. We ordered pierogies and... More

Not a very large premises and booking a table, especially around 7.00pm, is to be recommended. Although very busy when we arrived with no reservation we were invited to have a seat at the bar and in no time we had a drink and the menu placed in front of us and after only a short wait we were allocated... This, coming from someone who rarely takes the time to write a review, but I thought it was my duty to ward people off from this place. The waiter absolutely refused to allow my friend (who, for personal reasons, can't eat pork) to make any sort of amendments to her brunch order. We were so appalled by his treatment of... More

This restaurant has been on my list for awhile. The pierogis were awesome, the poutine was original and delicious, the pork tenderloin was very good. The duck confit though was dry and overall a bit of a disappointment. However, the waiter did not charge for the duck (I couldn't finish it) and a sign of a good restaurant. The service... More

Went in out of the frigid cold. Welcomed immediately. Had the so called routine. Amazing. The heart and bones was very rich. Well paired with a St Emilio. Lovely.

Stopped here for lunch after browsing through ByWard market, and was pleased with my decision. They are a bit inflexible with special requests, but the food was delicious, and the service was good.

Like: Wild boar rillette (for $8, you get a good portion of the rilette with all the trimmings - pickled onion, pickled raisin, beets, mustard, etc) Also yummy: spaetzel poutine, deep fried duck breast with molasses Delicious entree: the pig that is encased in some kind of fat with spaetzel and roasted turnip. Yum! The beef shank was a bit... More

Found this restaurant during a recent business trip to Ottawa. Near center of city, close to the market. The exterior of the restaurant is easy to ignore as it looks like an old home. Inside is a warm and inviting, quiet space. The bar and charcuterie dominate the space, but not overwhelming. The menu is simple, but choosing it tough!!... More
