Instant Gratification

If you are craving a sweet snack, a generous sized snack, this is the place. It is conveniently located in the Byward Market, and a great dessert after you have had a delicious hot dog. Oh, you will need a napkin, or two for sure, and just eat and enjoy!!

Seriously, this may be the best confection ever conceived by the human mind. Beavertail ranks up there with the moon landings and the Mona Lisa as an achievement of high culture. I stood in the snow, at night, at -30C in January TWICE to partake. I can't describe it. Just go eat one. Couldn't be any more addictive if they... More

Beaver tails are a big 1" thick pastry about the size of a man's hand that is fried. You then select what toppings you want. My favorite is melted chocolate spread all over it, then chopped pecans sprinkled all over that. Not for those watching their waistline, but very scrumptious. A true Canadian sweet treat.

A true Ottawa tradition! The market was full of people and the staff still managed to serve everyone with next to no wait time and represented a fun and playfully atmosphere that the tourists appreciated! Delicious and a must have! (Even for us locals from time to time!)

Very yummy, they have lots of different varieties. I have issues with dairy so I got mine not dipped in butter with just cinnamon sugar on top and it still tasted good :) Make sure you bring cash, they don't take cards - we paid in USD and it ended up costing us more so I would bring some Canadian... Had to go to Beavertails at the Byward Market (hadn't been to one in years)....just as it was 10 years ago- these are terrific treats worth waiting a few minutes in line on a cold day! I wish they would open one up in NYC!! Hard to describe exactly how they are made but they sure taste great (in many... More

I'm from the states and somehow, we don't have this fried "delicacy". If you're from the states, you have to try this. Loved it and wish they were everywhere.

I finally digged in since all my friends have tried it already. There are quite a few toppings to chooos from. There's no place to sit but there is a small wooden ledge if you prefer to avoid messy fingers. This is a good place to try if you have a sweet tooth,

Lots of different Tail to choose from, savory or sweet! Kind of messy the chocolate concoction I had, but worth it. I do still really like the original. They might want to hand out wetnaps with each order! A definite must-visit for all visitors in Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall! You may have to make several visits or go with... More
