We're talking deep fried dough here. Toppings can be as simple as cinnamon and sugar or apples and citrus . They also have a couple of savory toppings. It's a walk up shack in Byward with a few table outside to scarf it down. If you're into health food don't bother but if a quick tasty sugar fix is on... More

Had to get a beavertail while in Ottawa on Canada Day, it's an Ottawa establishment (nevermind that they have stalls throughout the province now). You may think they're a tad overpriced for a deep-fried patty of dough ($6 each I think), but boy are they ever good. I'm a chocolate hazelnut devotee myself. The fun to be had with foreigners... At the end of our vacation in Ottawa we finally got our Beavertail. And it was wonderful. A trip to Ottawa and not getting a beavertail is kinda like going to the beach and not getting in the water...whats the point right?

You can't visit Ottawa without a stop here! An iconic part of the byward market, this place deserves a trip. I scared some people when I said we need to stop to eat some beaver tails! For those who aren't familiar with these yummy treats they're basically a flat, fried piece of dough (in the shape of a beaver tail)... More

Delicious treat while wandering around Byward Market. Sugar, cinnamon & lemon comes highly recommended. Lots of comedy value too, of course!

I have tried Beavertails three times since I moved to Ottawa, and I managed to eat two of them on one visit, so I can comment on the four flavours that I tried: while they are all tasty (cinnamon and sugar is probably the best, the lime juice one is all right) and they all seemed to be made fresh... These just seem to be one of those things you have to get while in Ottawa, and it's totally worth it. Beavertails are sort of a flat version of a doughnut topped with all kinds of goodies. While they are a bit expensive, it's definitely worth the cost. After a little trial and error, my husband and I decided the... More

Nasty, sugary mess in my opinion good for little kids who like to visit the dentist and misbehave all day :-) High priced ick, try some of the great bakery's in the area before dropping 7+ here

No these are not a good value, but every trip to Ottawa should start with a Beavertail. They are delicious donutty goodness. Get the plain cinnamon sugar - it is the cheapest, purest and best of the bunch in my opinion.
