When visiting Barrie last August we decided to stay for dinner...The North came highly recommended...It was our first time to the North...we had a quiet corner table for two....a nice bottle of Portuguese wine, the food and service amazing....we will be back.

The chef wouldn't even qualify for Hell's Kitchen -- mounds acids/palate cleansers like vinaigrettes or tomatoes on top of foie gras or (supposed-to-have-been) slow-cooked meats. Dried-out venison shank (likely yesterday's, reheated in an oven because one piece was actually burned black and not even cut-able!). No pepper mills; very limited wine list (likely from the "downtown" LCBO next door -... More

Over the past few weeks I have eaten twice at The North and on both occasions the meal was superb. The menu is highly imaginative to the point of begging the question "could that really work" but it does and it is fabulous. You don't often find a chef who isn't content to let your finish the meal with just... More

We've never had a bad meal at the North Restaurant, although I wouldn't recommend going during Barrielicious. It's just too busy and the staff can't give you the attention you would normally get when you go on a normal weekend or week night. Last time we went was on Sept. 7 with my son and his girlfriend. It was our... More

We attended with another couple and had a tremendous with really good service. The food was fantastic and the wine served promptly. The staff was very supportive with our request for assistance with our transportation at the end of our evening. A very wonderful experience.

We recently tried the North Restaurant in Barrie for Barrielicious and was a little disappointed for the high end experience I was expecting. The menu was varied but the food was not done up as I expected for this type of restaurant. My wine glass came out and it was filthy. Ordered a specialty coffee and it was cold when... More

Been their many of time both for Barrielious and non Barrielious. The food this time was excellent as normal. The service though was extremely sloppy and mistake prone. First of instead of automatically automatically refilling our water glasses we had to ask. The big mistake was the coffee service with dessert. Normally their coffee is served in a French press... We have been to The North a few years ago and recall being pleased with the experience. Our most recent visit was a big enough disappointment that we will not bother going back again. While there were three people attending to us, a waitress and two helpers, the service was more akin to a roadhouse than fine dining. While it... More

To be honest this is probably my second favourite fine dining restaurant in Barrie after Michael and Marrions, the food and location are excellent...except in Barrilicious. I don't think the North is unique in this aspect, but it is just my worst memory of this annual disaster for those who are prepared to pay for a good meal. We waited... More

We went for my girlfriends birthday and they blew our expectations away. We had several allergies at our table and they catered to us and came up with creative, fresh and delicious meals. The presentation of the dessert was out of this world. Amazing! ;)
