My girlfriend and I walk by this place almost everyday, but always assumed that it was a little too far out of our price range for a random Friday night dinner and drinks. Finally in November (2014), we were celebrating an accomplishment and figured this place would be a great place to finally try. We were not disappointed. It is... More

A great ambience and quality service await you. They know how to pamper you, and they do. Great wines as well. I felt the food left a bit to be desired though.

This is one of the best restaurants in the North and if your in the northern GTA you need to check this place out. I had the beef tenderloin and it was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection with a soup to start that was to die for!

Wonderful ambience with great local art work gracing the walls (we have to buy a piece!), and excellent food and service. Our server Tory was knowledgeable and charming, the mussels were excellent as was the duck (ample portion, the best of both worlds with tender confit and rare breast combined), and cudos to the pastry chef for the truffle plate... This is one of our favourite places for a special meal. It feels intimate without being stuffy or feeling the need to keep your conversation at a whisper! The food is excellent. It is a small menu, but varied, and you know you will receive quality food that is lovingly prepared. The ambiance in the front room is especially warm,... More

Merv the server makes Painters Hall Bistro, but the short beef rib and risotto is certainly one that fills the belly. The wine selection is extensive and the ambiance is amazing.

This was not the original plan for date night but the girlfriend failed to make reservations. As a second choice we ended up at this quaint little spot in down town Barrie. Overall we can honestly say this was an exceptional experience; A pleasant unplanned dinning experience. We visited the restaurant on Saturday November 1st. We thought that not having... More

We accidentally discovered this beautiful restaurant six years ago, had dinner and became a regular. We have since moved an hour away but we have made it a practice to make the trip to Barrie to enjoy the hospitality extended by Shane, Erin and the staff ; to savour the house wine and sample the excellent cuisine of Chef Rachel.... When visiting Barrie we usually go down town for lunch...then for a walk at the waterfront we used to go to a new restaurant across the street from Painters Hall..... but as it has changed management and is not near what it used to be....we decided to try Painters Hall...wow..great mussels, salad and their Hamburger..with a home made sauce...yummy...will try...
