Good Pub Grub With Historic Charm

Built in 1834 Henry House is one of Halifax's oldest residents and once home to William Henry a 'Father of Confederation' and mayor of the city. History aside it's been an eating establishment for a good number of yrs. in it's later life. For it's first 20th.Century turn at turning out good food it... read more

Fine variety of their own brews all of which are good although it depends on your taste which you settle on. Food is good pub type fare. Service is not always great - you can wait a while for your first wait-staff contact or to get your bill at the end

Warm and cozy with lit fires. It was like stepping into a time capsule with many period details. The service was pleasant but not hovering. Not my thing, but they appeared to have an extensive draft beer selection with many local and microbrews. The downstairs was a vintage and cheerful pub with small booths and dartboards. The menu is the... More

This is a must visit in Halifax. The pub has lots of character plus the food is quite good. I always go for the ultimate burger. The best part is their homemade beer. The Peculiar and Ringwood are excellent.

Was in Halifax with a friend in January and was directed to the Henry House downstairs pub by a local. Always a bit suspicious of such places but found it to be a great find. Cozy, friendly historic with great beer, service and food. Usually pub fare is limited to fried everything thrown on a plate with no excuses. This... More

This pub is in an old house and is very cozy inside. Servers were very friendly and the beer selection was great! However, the food was average. I had the seafood fettuccini and my friend had the fish cakes.

One of Halifax's oldest and most traditional pubs. Great beer and good pub food at a good price. Try the fish and chips.

A very quaint brew pub downstairs. There is more space on the main floor, but I was not there. The entrance is somewhat confusing as it is at the side of the house and not well marked as such. It is definitely known for its all local beer. If you need to determine what beer you want, they will provide... More

Stopped for a beer (not food)l! Very neat little pub. Service was very good! The atmosphere was cozy! We enjoyed our short visit and really enjoyed talking to the wait staff about the establishment, their beer selections, and about Halifax. Thanks for a great experience!
