Enjoyed a very pleasureable evening at The Press Gang. Requested a private table when reserving and received a beautiful table for 2 in the private enclave. Very romantic. Jamie was a super waiter. Very friendly and attentive. Food was outstanding! Highly recommended.

On a cold night in Halifax, we found ourselves in this special place. It's a unique subterranean space. Highlights of our meal included a fantastic Artisan Green Salad, Ribeye and a deconstructed pie for dessert. The menu was new but it did not seem to slow the kitchen down. It's pricey but worth it. We will be back.

We recently stayed over in Halifax for one night, on short notice, during a family visit. We remembered this place from our previous visit, seven years ago, and decided to indulge again. The atmosphere is very intimate, with the space divided into several small rooms. It is a lovely old building. The wine list is quite good - we were... More

We spent Saturday evening at The Press Gang to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. There were 22 of us in the the semi- private area. With a large group you often expect something to go wrong while dining, but our evening was PERFECT. The food was delectable and the wine was flowing and what was evening better was that the... More

Went for a special occasion dinner for two and decided to try "The Drill". Each course was AMAZING. No exaggeration. Highlights of the dinner were: Lobster Bisque, Mustard-Crusted Veal, Sweet Potato Perogie, and Lavender Creme Brulee. Our server was very attentive, and held the palette-cleansing sorbet while we took a stroll around the block to try and digest the first... More

We live in Halifax and this is our favourite "special occassion" restaurant and the place we always take out of towners when we have visitors (both for the consistently good food and the ambience). The building itself is very cool (worth popping in for a quick drink even if you don't eat there), it dates back to the late 1700's... More

Every time i"m in Halifax I try to eat at the Press Gang. Ambiance is historic and romantic and strikes a perfect balance between formal and casual. The crab cakes are outstanding and I enjoyed the halibut that was presented with some delightful and surprising flavours (cabbage?!). The wine list satisfies, too. Service is polished and attentive -- particularly on... More

I had read that the building was one of the oldest in Halifax which intrigued me so we went one nite for a pre dinner drink. After lots of bad cocktails in the Maritime Provinces, Brian really knew how to make a drink and was a good host to boot. We went back the next nite to share some food... More
