This restaurant was in our hotel, but it is a standout anywhere. The food was really imaginative and just beautiful. We spend two weeks in Nova Scotia, eating out every night, and this was the cream. Not cheap, but well worth the price. I had an incredible vegetarian dish, and I am not a vegetarian - it was just so... more

The only negative thing I can say about Gio is that it is pricey for Halifax; even so, I make it a point to eat here at least once a season. The food quality-- presentation, originality, fusion of flavors,-- is so unconventional that I think it goes over best with out-of-towners. This ain't your 1970's style supper-club-it's hipper than your... more

As we were staying at the Prince George Hotel, we decided to try their bar and restaurant on our first night. They were both amazing. The atmosphere was very relaxing, with dim lights and soft music well attuned to a sophisticated place. The cocktails we had were fantastic. I don’t drink much at all, but I had a “One” cocktail... more

I had avoided eating a Gio for two nights, but we decided to try it since we were staying at the Prince George. This was the best, most innovative cuisine we had in the city--everything well prepared and served. Although somewhat pricey, it was worth it. more

Despite other reviews being less than enthusiastic, we found this to be a wonderful evening. The welcome, service and food were almost faultless. For the record we are both very enthusiastic foodies and like to think we know what good looks like! From the pre-meal martinis through to post-supper brandies we loved every single bite. Pricey but highly recommended. more

With the four previous reviews I was not sure what to expect of GIo, but being a foodie, I had to try it.I have to say I am glad I did. The drink list is amazing, I experienced (not just tasted) the best martini I have ever had. It is called the dirty french and if made with the right... more

I expected a lot more of this restaurant. The decor was nice, but the music was not conducive to a relaxing dining experience. They played acid jazz, which is more a-propos of a late-night martini bar. The food was good, but not stunning. I was pleased by what I got, but not wowed -- and at those prices, I should... more

Decor is too artsy for me. Food can be also a little out there. I find they put fruit with everything, and I'm not a fruit-fan. Not one of my favorites. more
