This was truly one of the best meals ever. Seven adults of varying ages and tastes and each of us raved about the quality of the food and the service. The restaurant is housed in a converted bank and has several interesting areas, including a vault, for seating. The menu is not extensive but covers a good variety of what... More

My husband and I ate at Chives on a recent trip to Halifax, based on the excellent reviews on this site; we were not disappointed. The restaurant was bright and casual and the servers were helpful, accommodating, and attentive - and fun. Our appetizers and main courses (we both had fish) were great - absolutely no complaints. But the biscuits... More

Very helpful and professional staff. The food was fresh and nicely prepared. Overall, this place justified it's rating as one of the top two or three restaurants in Halifax.

Chives is a fabulous restaurant with delicious, local and fresh food. Our server was fantastic and provided great wine pairings to go with our meals. I had the Chef's special (seared halibut) and my partner had the lamb. Both were superb. We went on a Monday evening and it was packed so I would definitely recommend making a reservation. One... Chives is upstairs on Barrington st. It is worth climbing those stairs for the excellent meal that awaits. The plates were well turned out, but not precious. Haut cuisine, but presented in a genuine unpretentious way. The room is pleasant with a casual clientele. Our visit had some tourists in shorts and tshirts, some young couples done up for a... More

Can not say enough about this place, we took fourteen family members out to celebrate birthdays on Sunday and picked Chives. Let me tell you we are a true foodie family and a little loud mainly because of all the laughter. They put us up in a cove which was just perfect lots of room and great lightening. Steve was... More

After an afternoon of touring Halifax, we decided to head over early for our dinner. This is not a restaurant for the physically-challenged as there are stairs up to the restaurant and 23 steps down if you should care to go to the washroom! This was a Monday night. Are they serving leftovers from the weekend? I ordered a salad... More

Dear "Not sure what all the fuss is about" We are proud to be established in a historic building in the heart of downtown. The original purpose of the property was as the home of the Halifax YMCA built in 1914, a century ago this year. The building has seen many uses since that time, but due to its heritage... More

Chives was recommended to me by a co-worker who used to live in Halifax. I was not disappointed. Everything was excellent, starting with our cheerful and conversant server. The food was incredible. I had the lamb, which was soft as butter and fell off the bone. My guest enjoyed the chicken was was flavourful and tender. The biscuits with molasses... More

We were lucky to secure a table on a busy Sunday night in August. We had to wait for a late booking. We were seated in the vault - a lovely table for two hidden away - we were in luck. Tara-Lynn was our server and even though we were in vault and out of sight we never felt we... More
