I would recommend Chives as a great place to go and have a delicious meal with all local produce. The atmosphere is relaxed but space is limited to make a reservation so you won't be disappointed. Service was top notch and no complaints about portions of food etc. Restaurant can be a bit loud as not much room between tables... More

My wife is a "foodie" and Chive was the one place that she wanted to dine at while in Nova Scotia .We did & she loved it . The server was excellent, very attentive even though the place was packed. The place isn't cheap....but as they say....HAPPY WIFE.....HAPPY LIFE

We have never had biscuits as good as Chives'. They were tender and flaky. I had the porchetta with a risotto cake. My husband had the evening special of salmon with horseradish crust. I enjoyed the pork but risotto cake was the star with cheese oozing out of the cake. My husband's salmon was fresh and cooked perfectly. Our service... More

Great meal. I had the Market Mayhem - vegetarian meal with fried green tomatoes. The waiter discredit it as made with love and it was. My husband had beef and it was excellent. Dessert was risotto pudding with almonds. Yum!

The restaurant is supposedly the best in Halifax if not Nova Scotia according to forums and food sites/magazines. While it is not poor, the food was not particularly memorable except for the porchetta (just the meat itself), which was exceptionally tender and full of flavour. The buttermilk biscuits (savoury scones to Brits) were also very good. The rest was bordering... More

If you're in Halifax, you should make it a point to eat at Chives Bistro. We both had seafood, and it was fresh, local, and delicious. The biscuits are great. The people are pleasant, and the experience was great overall. It was a pleasant walk from the Marriott Harbourfront and back.

Enjoyed our recent visit to Chives, the biscuits are famous and there is a reason for that, they are so darn yummy - could have a meal just on those and jam or peanut butter. Main course (lamb) was so delicious and the presentation was amazing. Service was very good and friendly. Will be back to this restuarant!

came highly recommended and very accommodating but too many ingredients make for confusing tastes they make the mistake of using too many herbs rather than simply accenting the food. the duck was very good

Reviews seem to be quite mixed for this restaurant, almost like 2 different venues. We were recommended by a local resident and we were not disappointed. Our experience was excellent, from the warm buttermilk biscuits served in a paper bag to the locally sourced green salad and the superb slow cooked lamb. The place was buzzing, the service good. Wine... More

My husband was celebrating a special birthday (60) on the first day of our recent tour of the Maritimes. He had chosen Chives as the place he wanted to eat based on good reviews and interesting menu. Having made a reservation on line I emailed in secret to say we were visiting from the UK and he had especially chosen... More
