Our first meal on this trip- great way to start. We loved the delicious biscuits served with molasses. The chicken was wonderful.

The chef's awards are not by luck. The food at this place is truly amazing. It is a bit more expensive, but the quality justifies the price. The emphasis on local foods is a nice addition to an already great restaurant. Very good waitstaff as well, personable yet professional. A very good choice in Halifax.

The food was amazing here. Best meal of the week! Definitely worth a visit! Everything is locally sourced and obviously prepared with respect. I really enjoyed the lobster gnudi and the seafood chowder was probably the best I've ever had - big chucks of fish and lobster.

We loved the food and service! Waiter recommended wine was excellent. Not so nice was the ambience. We were seated in a group near the kitchen that has no door. Light from the kitchen was very bright. I think a bead like curtain would keep kitchen access easy and at the same time dim the kitchen lights coming into the... More

This was a great restaurant. It doesn't look very large or very assuming from the outside but once you are inside you can see that it is really quite a large establishment - very new looking and with a modern décor. The staff were friendly, efficient and explained that they worked a team approach where we would likely see them... More

The service was great, even on a busy Saturday evening. I started with the chaucueterie board, all items were very good, but the Foie Gras was to die for. The dessert special was a goat cheese cake, again to die for. My server was more than attentive. Just one suggestion to management: the washroom is clearly clean, but looks a... More

Here with friends- three of us went with the Nova Scotia lamb- done perfectly- tender and fell off the bone. Salad starters were well done too. Fish chowder was good not great- broth a bit simple but plenty of added fish and mussels. Go with the Drouhin Oregon Dundee pinot noir with the lamb- perfect match- let it breath a... More

This was our first time at Chives, but because of its top rating wanted to go for several months and now very glad we made it. The summer menu highlights local ingredients which works well for visitors wanting to experience the maritimes, but also because the food tastes terrific. We added the wines already picked for us on the menu... More

We were visiting Halifax from Edmonton with my parents and meeting my boyfriend's parents there. We chose Chives to celebrate my birthday (and the parents meeting) for the variety on the menu and the choices in gluten free options for our guest that has Celiacs. Little did we know that we would have lots to celebrate. By the time the... More

Came here with my husband for a dinner - didn't have reservations but the host made it work and made room for us - very glad he did because we couldn't ask for a better meal. Everything they make is on premises, hand made, and locally sourced. I had the pei beef 2 ways - perfectly done. Husband had the... More
