Enjoyed our recent visit to Chives, the biscuits are famous and there is a reason for that, they are so darn yummy - could have a meal just on those and jam or peanut butter. Main course (lamb) was so delicious and the presentation was amazing. Service was very good and friendly. Will be back to this restuarant!

came highly recommended and very accommodating but too many ingredients make for confusing tastes they make the mistake of using too many herbs rather than simply accenting the food. the duck was very good

Reviews seem to be quite mixed for this restaurant, almost like 2 different venues. We were recommended by a local resident and we were not disappointed. Our experience was excellent, from the warm buttermilk biscuits served in a paper bag to the locally sourced green salad and the superb slow cooked lamb. The place was buzzing, the service good. Wine... More

My husband was celebrating a special birthday (60) on the first day of our recent tour of the Maritimes. He had chosen Chives as the place he wanted to eat based on good reviews and interesting menu. Having made a reservation on line I emailed in secret to say we were visiting from the UK and he had especially chosen... More

On a very recent trip to the East Coast, I discovered Chives... and what a treat! When I walked in, I was not too sure if it was going to be the kind of place in which it is easy to dine alone. However, quickly, with the staff being so attentive and the relaxed atmosphere, I began to feel at... More

Having read good reviews, we expected much better. The decoration is not particularly attractive, service was cold and hurried, food was OK but not great (seafood chowder with overcooked fish, fine crusted cod), and wine is expensive. Except in Quebec City where we found very nice restaurants, our experience in Eastern Canada is that you had better stick with standard... More

You'll have to decide on that one. Obviously, per reviews, people like this place. I was enjoying a laid-back Nova Scotia holiday and we happened upon Chives. As stated the food is good, But the presentation and amalgam of tastes ( on both the halibut & cod) made it felt like they try too hard. The restaurant is, I feel,... More

The restaurant focuses on local foods and wines. All were presented very attractively and delicious. We started with the cold water shrimp spring roll and General Tao pork and the Cape Breton crab and sweet corn cake - excellent. For main courses we had the (very large) porch era and the tenderloin with urban blue cheese and mushrooms. Again, excellent.... More

We enjoyed our dinner at Chives, and particularly the friendly, attentive and informative service. Warm buttermilk biscuits served in a paper bag were a nice touch at the beginning, and the menu certainly lived up to the local fare billing. The farmers market salad included coloured beets and was very light and fresh, which was just as well as the... More

I hosted an international group for dinner at Chives, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. We enjoyed local wine, were charmed by our server who was friendly, attentive and engaging. The meals all round were spectacular, and it left my guests marveling at the calibre and quality of this restaurant. I have personally dined at Chives many times... More
