We had an early supper with 6 adults and one child on a busier than expected Sun night. Service was off to a good stat with our Coates being taken as we were directed to our table. Good size and comfortable chairs were a plus. Our waitress was efficient, friendly and was super attentive. Big tick there. The entree was... More

Went there with wife and friends The decoration is neat. The atmosphere was quiet except for few guest laughes We ordered the Lamb Melanise and the Fish Dish. The tastes were great. Simply, a great place to dine in while in downtown. P.S. I was about to give this place a five star until we ordered the banana bread dessert... More

Great food, great menu, great wine list and excellent service. Nice ambience, took the staff of five for a Christmas dinner, everything was going super until a cockroach climbed down the wall beside my head. I was a bit freaked out. Doubt I will come back.

From start to finish, I loved my dining experience at Chives. It's no secret that Craig Flinn is Halifax's best chef and his menu did not disappoint, nor did the wine! The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was cozy and warm and the whole evening felt so special! All local ingredients and so fresh. The pork tenderloin was... More

Was lucky to have the opportunity to dine with one of my favorite people on a girls' getaway and she chose this spot due to its food ethics. We were very pleased. Loved the fact that locally-grown and sourced foods were used. Really liked the creative menu choices. My faves were the biscuits with molasses and the bread pudding. We... More

I went to the Chives in September and was very impressed! I had the Market Mayhem (delicious!), my boyfriends had the steak (he said it was the best meal he's ever had), and my friend had the chicken (also amazing!). We left extremely satisfied. Although the food was great, the service was even better. I am unsure of the name... More

We had "line caught" Arctic Char but that simply isn't logical - it came from a fish farm - and spent too long in the pan and came out over cooked. All of us found our meals had good aspects, but not of us were fully satisfied with the quality.

My husband made a reservation at my favourite restaurant, to celebrate my birthday. The day had been perfect and I was looking forward to dinner. I thought it couldn't get any better cause I already knew it was going to be delicious. Last night I learned that "perfect" really can be trumped by: a table for two, tucked in the... More

My wife and I eat out fairly often, and over the years we've been to most of Halifax's finest restaurants, but for some reason, we hadn't been to Chives until last week. We went there on a week night to celebrate her birthday and left feeling that we'd made a fine choice. Given the Bistro's excellent reputation for food preparation,... More

Very nice restaurant , interesting decor. Made reservations through a site on internet and made special request for a nice, quiet table for two since it was my husband's birthday and we got it! The menu was limited but interesting and we appreciate the fact that it consist of mostly local products from Nova Scotia. Service was excellent. Wine list... More
