Description: Chives Canadian Bistro offers contemporary Canadian cuisine, in a unique casual atmosphere, in the heart of downtown Halifax. The key to Chives' success over the years has been cooking with the use of local, in-season ingredients offering our twist on Canadian cuisine, creating menus using the best and the freshest from the farms and waters of Nova Scotia. Combining a relaxed atmosphere and attentive service both Haligonians and guests from afar love our bistro. The main dining room balances a cozy and private mood, as does the Private Dining Room for larger groups, but for a special occasion, arrange for seating in the bank vault-turned-wine cellar. Excellent restaurant. We eat there on all our trips to Halifax. The menu changes according to the seasons and it is consistently good. The highlight for me is the homemade biscuits which arrive hot in a brown paper bag. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

After hearing so many good things about chives my partner and I decided to go check it out, sadly we were both very disappointed. Our visit started out great but quickly went down hill, when our appetizers showed up my sliders were cold as ice and when I told our waitress she seemed very annoyed by me saying this, like... More

We were in Halifax for a visit and went to Chives with friends on their recommendation. They had been before and had enjoyed it. We are so glad they made the suggestion because the evening was perfect. We had a reservation and when we showed up early we were shown right to our table. Our server was excellent. She was... More

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Chives yesterday evening in celebration of our 1-year wedding anniversary. We were very pleased with the restaurant's service and the exquisite and delicious food that was prepared for us. Our dining experience was a lovely one. Chives is an impressive dining locale and won our appetites and more than exceeded... More

In terms of price / quality this was a disappointment. Recommended wines by the glass have no price on the menu and turned out to be outrageously overpriced. I had a daily special: rack of lamb with barley risotto. The lamb was anonymous in character and the barley risotto was working overtime, with no discernible results. Don't bother.

My wife and I went to Chives for an early dinner on a Friday. We were happy that we were able to get a seat dispite not having a reservation. My wife order the sea trout and I ordered the stuffed chicken breast. The service during the meal was very good, but we both had issues with our food. My... More

I have been here on many occasions and never been disappointed. I enjoy the low- key laid back atmosphere. They food is all local food with a nice variety of choices to please all tastes from Lamb, seafood to pasta. Everyone at my table thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. If you are visiting or local this is a must... More

While back visitng in Halifax I knew an evening at Chives was on my radar and a must. It's been a couple of year since I've dined at this wonderful restaurant and I'm happy to report that my dining experience was as good or even better than my last. I think the decor has changed slightly, allowing for a continued... More

Everything from the service to the food was pretty close to perfection! We were a party of 9 girls celebrating a soon to be bride and they were quite accommodating. We were late in arriving for our reservation and the servers were quite gracious about our lateness. From the appetizers to the coffee, it was all divine! I have been... More
