Good food and reasonably priced

A Saturday 10:00 reservation on Vallentines, the food was very good, I had the N.Y. Steak and my wife the Duck Confit, apps were scallops and gnocchi. Service was very good and attentive. It was a great Valentines out.

From the moment you walk in, you feel this rushed "you should leave now" vibe. The service was very poor... no one really cares about you here. Your just a customer and they just want to take your order and get you out so someone else can spend their hard earned money in that table. Not a very good establishment... More

An excellent restaurant with excellent staff. They've got an amazing menu featuring lots of local foods with an elegant twist on everything. The biscuits and molasses here are the best ever. Literally they are as good as my mothers biscuits. I've gone here many times before and I continue to make a reservation any time I'm in Halifax as they've... More

We go here a few times a year, as it's so reliably, steadily good. Thoughtful service, interesting menu, many local wines. On our last visit we went with the restaurant month prix fixe menu. We thought it seemed like a lot of food, but the waitress assured us they scaled it all down so it wouldn't be too much. She... More

Have eaten here on may occasions and have never been disappointed, food is always fresh, exciting , and full of flavor. The staff are knowable and well informed on he menu and are a great help in making a decision. Have eaten in a lot of places in 40+ years of traveling and would have to say that CHIVES rates as... Not much where to go get decent food in Halifax, Chives is probably the best place so far. Not fancy, but professional staff and creative chef who offers unpretentious cooking with sometimes really good surprises. I would rank it 3.5/5.

I am not a big portion guy so this place was fine for me. Food was excellent. Selection sparse but no complaints although the chicken was a tad overdone. Flavours made up for that. Currently a bit hard to find due to signage. Prices are fair. Sat in an awkward table so not sure what the ambience is otherwise.

We were fortunate to get a late reservation at Chives just a few days before New Year's Eve as it was a last minute decision to go out. We arrive a few minutes early, however our table was waiting for us. The special menu had some great choices, however we both choose the same items. The Duck-Duck-Goose appetizer was excellent,... We really enjoyed our evening at Chives. We had a cozy corner table with a good view of the charming restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and efficient, a good source for menu recommendations. The wine selection was perfect as were the wines we chose. The food was nicely presented and excellent tasting, the best we had on our 5-day trip... More

We had an early supper with 6 adults and one child on a busier than expected Sun night. Service was off to a good stat with our Coates being taken as we were directed to our table. Good size and comfortable chairs were a plus. Our waitress was efficient, friendly and was super attentive. Big tick there. The entree was... More
