Excellent! Many small interesting touches - Cowder was Great

Ask about the origins of the biscuits, the molasses, the huge safe door. Enjoy the great tasting foods, excellent service, cozy/comfortable setting For this quality - the prices are very reasonable!

Started with a very disappointing salad - hardly covered the bottom of the bowl. Sent the main causes back as they were cold. Overpriced, lacked warmth or ambiance. It was recommended by hotel staff

Dinner following the niece's graduation from university, so she got to pick the location. She had not been before, but had heard it was great. It also had fairly good reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp. Maybe I'm missing something, but my better half and I were not overly impressed. The menu had a fairly limited selection: so much so,... It didn't start well because they placed us on the main dining room so we were alone in a corner by a window on the street; will the waiter forget us ? Well, sometimes... Luckily the food was so good we enjoyed our diner anyway, particularly the chowder which was the best I ever ate, creamy but not too much... More

In Halifax for a week and getting my fill of seafood - so lots to compare to. I had the special - pan fried cod - lightly dusted with corn flour and seasoning. That's all it needed - sweet, fall apart fresh heaven! Accompanying risotto with goat cheese and fiddleheads was perfect. Started with scallops, done to perfection and again,... More

We had a wonderful meal here and many natives of Hailfax will recommend it. The restaurant is smallish, but quaint and casual. They meanings very good although not extensive, but this was no problem. They source all ingredients locally and have a daily fish special. The halibut serve with goat cheese risotto and fiddle head ferns was absolutely superb. But... More

We were with a larger party. Some of the plates were excellent, but others were ok. Not consistent enough to give a higher rating. I had higher expectations considering all the buzz about the place.

I love dining at Chives and try to get there every time I'm in Halifax. The service is amazing and the food is always fresh and delicious. This trip I tried the salmon while my friend had the steak, both were cooked perfectly and everything was delicious. The banana bread pudding for dessert was the best bread pudding I have... More

I cannot say enough about the amazing service and atmosphere at Chives. I had a three course meal, and though I was totally full I couldn't bear to leave a bite beind. Just absolutely delicious food. Can't wait to go back.
