I don't understand all the rave reviews. We went over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. The woman working the window was very rude...hey, it's not my fault you had to work...and the food was really sub par. I agree with the other reviewer that the gravy is just plain awful; thin and overly spiced. We paid about $20 for two servings.... More

Virtually every time I come to Halifax, I stop here for a snack of poutine. I had the chili cheese bacon this time. Very good. Now I know there will be the poutine traditionalists that argue this isn't real poutine but I like mixing it up once in a while. They do make decent traditional poutine as well. Its better... More

Took my grandchildren toHalifax Maritime Museum and found Smoke's Poutinerie. They like poutine so tried it they said was good. The only problem I had was when one of the staff who were making up the dished used his bare hands to move some of the fries from one dish to another, for health reasons they should wear gloves.

Being from the Midwestern United States, I'd never heard of poutine before heading to Nova Scotia. Now, after eating this combination of french fries with cheese curds and thin, brown gravy, I realize how incomplete my life has been up to now. In all seriousness, Smoke's was delicious. They offer a wide variety of meat and other toppings for their... More

Saw Smokes Poutinerie on Eat St awhile back and when I saw there was one in Halifax, I was very excited. Real cheese curds that squeaked, just perfect!

Some people love this place, I'm just not one of them. The gravy is heavy with thyme flavour and I find it weird and topping selection is even weirder. It makes me sad to think that tourists might leave here thinking that this is what poutine tastes like.

Yes they may be a little bit more expensive than other places, but the portion size is obscene! We ordered three portions for four people ( one child) and had to thow some out, wow. The traditional poutine is very tasty and the staff is very friendly. Nostalgia took over, when we saw that they sell pop shop pop....nice touch!... More

...and let me tell you the smoke's one was way better. First the curd cheese was super fresh, squeeky like it should and the gravy and fries were awesome. Here you get your money worth as far as cheese goes too. Other places in town dare charging you extra money for extra cheese while at Smoke's you will have enough... More

While the fries are homemade, and the staff is great, the poutine comes out with already soggy fries, not the crisp fries that make a true poutine great. Also there was a decidedly odd taste in the gravy, I think it was rosemary which I detest, so that didn't help my review. Alas, I have had much better poutine from... More

Never having tried this regional dish, we simply had to sample the pulled pork option while visiting Halifax. Not on the cardiologist's list of approved dishes, but delectable, all the same! Service was friendly and fast, and the poutine rich and tasty. The cheese definitely works with the sauce and meat, saturating the fries thoroughly--messy fun! Don't know why they... More
