Ranked #6 of 209 restaurants in Dartmouth
Certificate of Excellence 2013
Price range: $7 - $46
Cuisines: Contemporary
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch, Dinner, Reservations, Late Night
Description: Modern contemporary design, at the cross roads of casual and upscale. We are well priced versus our competitive set. Almost nothing is purchased pre-prepared. We make our stocks from scratch. Our Foccacia and Fettuccine are also house made. Chef Stefan is a young, passionate, European trained culinarian. He has worked around the world to hone his craft...Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Muskokas and now Dartmouth. He eats, sleeps and breathes food, bringing excitement and a mentoring style to the kitchen. He can get excited about a bunch of kale or a tenderloin...If it is perfect! In his words "you have to respect and honour the food". We are a 4 minute walk from the Halifax ferry on the Dartmouth side of the harbour.

We eat at Nectar often. We have the weekend Brunch about every two weeks and had the Valentines set menu for dinner in February. The food is great. We have tried everything on the Brunch menu over the past year and have always been pleased. The dinner on Valentines Day was one of the best we have ever had. The... More

Hello Debbie Thank you for the great review! We do put a lot of effort into it via training and a constant questioning of what we do. We have very inspired staff both in the kitchen and dinning room. I will pass your comments on to all. Regards Ian(cel 476 7861) More

The pros - lovely decor, clean all around, great wine list The cons - too warm, mediocre food, uninspired server Our party of four was initially impressed with the beautiful decor. Very soothing surroundings although we found it incredibly warm for dining. The server came over immediately and interrupted our conversation to introduce herself. When asking if we'd like to... We have had the pleasure of eating here twice, most recently on Valentine's Day. It is one of the few finer dining options in Downtown Dartmouth. We have always had great service. The food has always been promptly served, and delicious, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Great selection of wine, and we really enjoy the atmosphere. We definitely... More

We just returned from Panama, Costa Rica and Other Central America countries, we came home because was to have sprung in early March, unfortunately that was the first disappointment, the 2nd was opening the fridge and finding it empty, so we went to Nectar first time back in 5 months, and the Martini's, appetizers, and the food were fabulous. Our... More

My husband and I recently went to Nectar for a romantic night out. The service was great from the moment we arrived to when we left. The new menu is excellent and very reasonably priced. We shared the calamari for an appetizer. The only thing I would change, would be to have the sauce poured over them rather than on... More

Hello Pk Thank you for your review! I have just spoken with Chef Stefan regarding the raging calamari debate (many wanted it with the sauce on the side). We are going to change back to the original tomorrow which was floured rather than panko and we will toss it in the sauce also. Good call! I am pleased that you... More

Came with family for a celebratory dinner. Greeted promptly, sat upstairs. Tables divided by fringe curtains. Extremely loud party (10+) next to us, should've been put in the private room as they were large and disruptive. Our waiter was okay. We could barely hear him over the party and the resto's music, but I found out his name was Geoff.... More

Georgienne Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed the evening in spite of the large table that was nearby. That is a age old challenge for restaurants to manage! With regard to the salmon, the definition of Gravlox is indeed cured. It is the Scandinavian method as opposed to the Scotish and North American smoking process. The... More

It was worth the walk across the park in the freezing cold to have a great dinner with great service. (If you're staying at the Holiday Inn it's not that far). Candied walnuts with scallops is genius and the lobster fettucini was excellent. Even better, before 7pm is happy hour! I would love to bring my wife next time!

Hello Marky Thank you for taking the walk up from the Holiday Inn and also for your strong review. We are very excited about our new menus and the level of skill that Chef Stefan Bruchmann has brought to the game. Stefan took over as Chef in January. He is European trained and has worked around the world. The fettucini... More

I love a good veg eggs Benny, and this place delivers. Great service by Jeff and beautifully appointed restaurant make this a winner. We returned for their Sunday eve happy hour and musical offering and were equally impressed. This is my new old favourite spot.

Upon arrival, we were seated by a very nice young man. He took us upstairs and seated us and introduced us to another male server. I don't think I've ever had such great service in a restaurant before. The servers were attentive, helpful and friendly. They made great suggestions and explained how the food was made. They also answered all... More
