Went by myself and enjoyed thoroughly. Food was good and beer too! Would have been nicer with family but enjoyed nonetheless...service was a little slow but all in all good! Lots of good local choices for food along with the usual pub fare!

We arrived in Sydney, Nova Scotia on Saturday, October 11th and had heard that Governors Pub and Eatery was a great place to eat and it was ranked as #7 place to eat in Sydney. What a disappointment. First off - they could not accommodate us in the dining area and were told to go upstairs and we could have... More

We were looking forward to a lovely dinner here before the closing concert for Celtic Colours a few weeks ago. We arrived at 5pm and were asked if we had reservations (almost 60% of the restaurant was empty). We said that we did not and the hostess told us to go upstairs to the bar area and there should be... We ate here in the downstairs dining room around 5:30 on a weeknight. Service was generally slow. We received our food about 45 minutes after placing orders. The halibut was overcooked and dry and the vegetables were tasteless. Fortunately, our waitress was responsive in getting us another order. We didn't experience any other restaurants in Sydney, but if this is... More

Great location, overlooking the Sydney harbour and docking cruise ships. Had lunch in the second floor pub area which is cosy with live music. Try out some of the local beer and seafood. Menu is typical pub fare, but it was tasty!

We looked forward to eating here, but were very disappointed. Hubby's medium steak was so charred on the outside that he couldn't eat it. He is not a complainer, but this was the exception. His "second" one was not fully cooked. YOU WILL NEED PROTECTIVE CLOTHING if you want to safely handle the condiment containers. The vinegar dispenser had so... More

Our cruise went into Sydney and I must say; this is not much of a destination. There were very few shops or restaurants around. But we stumbled upon this establishment. It is in a very old house along the main waterfront street. We were happy to find this place in the drab town. We went up stairs to the bar... More

We spent nearly three weeks traveling from the Atlanta area to Cape Bretton, Nova Scotia. In Sydney, a local recommended the Governor's Pub and Eatery. Their food is outstanding and very reasonable (for Canada). We found the lobster weren't as sweet as Maine lobster, but that's not their fault. Everything else was cooked and prepared perfectly! We ate there almost... More

The Governors Pub and Eatery is a popular pub and restaurant in Sydney - perhaps because there are not many/any good choices in downtown Sydney. The dinner menu has a variety of selections, but is basically pub food The waitresses are overloaded on weekends (about 10 tables each) so the service is very slow. And they messed up our order....
