Meet your family and maybe the Mayor too!

We recently visited the Rose and Griffon while doing genealogical research in Shelburne. We had a few quiet drinks and some pleasant conversation with the barkeep/cook/manager Gary O'Connor and greatly enjoyed ourselves. My mother & I were travelling through the area Aug. 12/13th, 2014, using the NS Doers & Dreamers Guide for places to stay & eat. Well, let me just say there's probably a reason this place doesn't have any stars for its rating! The restaurant wasn't even open and had the chairs/furniture all piled up as if it had been... More

This food was wonderful - and very exciting- the presentation as well as the taste. I had a bowl of aubergine (eggplant) soup. This came in a very wide-lipped white bowl, which really set off the beautiful aubergine colour, and the taste was great - don't think there was a lot added to the aubergine. It came with 1/2 slice... More

Tried the breaded haddock. Light, tasty, great lunch-time treat. Busy place, but even with only one wait-staff, everyone seemed to be receiving quick, friendly service. Would recommend Rose & Griffon to anyone visiting Shelburne. After all, as per my 'title', the locals were dining there!

This is one of my favourite places in Shelburne to eat ... and Shelburne has a surprising number of good choices for such a small town. The owners, Gary and June, have tailored their menu to focus on those dishes they do best: seafood, handmade pasta (including ravioli), burgers (including an awesome veggie burger), vegetarian dishes including chana masala and... Best gelato this side of the Atlantic. The service is simple but great and the owner is very friendly.

Charming small town business with owners who really want you to feel welcome and comfortable. Whenever we travel in the area, we make it a point to stop in for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is great, the menu (while not huge) definitely has something for everyone. As two vegetarians, we find even the bigger communities in NS are vegetabally... More
