We loved the food and cocktails at Basho. What we did not like was the service. We were greated at the door and seated quickly. That was the only thing that happened quickly. After half an hour we had not received the drinks we had ordered and we had to ask for menus. Once we were bought our tasty mojitos... More

Don't go to the Keg if you feel like a beautiful piece of tenderloin, head for Basho, but you'll need a reservation - like most restaurants in St. John's. I also had the Nobu Style Sashimi, highly recommended.

We arrived at Basho without a reservation, but we were able to eat at the bar which was an excellent choice as we got to watch the bartender mixing drinks non-stop the whole time we were there. The menu was an interesting mix of Japanese cuisine and traditional bistro. The tempura vegetables and the crab cakes were delicious. The main... More

I travel quite a bit for business and am used to the 'average' restaurant meal. The dinner I had at Basho was one of the best restaurant meals I had in the last 3 or 4 months. The food, the presentation, the service were all very, very good. I would strongly recommend making a reservation - the folks I saw... More

St.John's is very lucky to have Basho. Their food is unique, their menu has many options, and their cooks are accommodating. When I called ahead to make a reservation I made sure to note my severe shellfish allergy, and they handled it so well I for once was not embarrassed to be dining out, even with my various allergies. Our... More

This is one of the best meals we had in St Johns. We started with cocktails and I had the blueberry basil martini, ok, I had two..delicious. For an appetizer, we shared the crab and corn croquettes ...wonderful. For the main we each ordered the special which was filet, mussels, tempura vegetables and truffle fries...fantastic. Sorry we were so full... More

Great food. Awesome sushi and sashimi. I've had the lamb, filet mignon, and duck entrees. All fabulous. The fresh fruit martinis and mojitos are to die for. However, whenever I've dined in this restaurant with more than 4 people the service has been poor. Eg. Cocktails were warm, food arriving cold/late, messing up orders...

Dropped in with the wife for dinner, didn't have a reservation, however, they very kindly managed to squeeze us into a nice corner. The service and atmosphere were both first class. The wine, Peter Lehman Merlot, at $25 for 500ml, was reasonably priced for St. John's. I had the filet mignon, and frankly it was the best steak I have... More

Basho's came highly recommended by friends from St. John's so we decided to give it a try. We had a large group of 16 so we called ahead for reservations and were assured that they could accommodate our large group. We had to give a credit card number which would be charged $50. per head if we did not show... More

great sushi, drinks, and menu. Cool atmosphere. A bit pricy but you have to pay for exceptional food. The drink menu is a must try.
