I took my wife and two dear friends out for dinner here at the end of our first full day in St. John's and we had a wonderful meal. The service was courteous, prompt and attentive and the food was excellent. This meal was important to me as it was my way if thanking the three of them for their... More

Overall our experience was excellent. The service was warm and personable. The menu is modern and fresh take on newfoundland cuisine. The food was very well prepared and very tasty. The best meal and dining experience of my week at the hotel. Definitely worth the uber cardio walk up the hill from downtown.

We'd had a nice time eating local specialties in Newfoundland, so we dropped in here to finish with something a bit fancy. It was delicious! We had the game and seafood specials of the night: a moose stew and fresh caught salmon. I had no idea moose was so delicious, and the salmon was some of the best we ever... More

I took a party of five to Bacalao this evening. The food was excellent, the wine was good, and the service was good EXCEPT that the servers ignored my wife! I have no idea why - she is quiet and reserved - but I did not appreciate it. Keep my wife happy and I will be happy. Anyway, we all... More

Hi John, Thanks for reviewing. I am thrilled to hear that your group enjoyed the food and service. But I would like to get to the bottom of why you felt your wife didn't receive the same level of service... could you please email me directly? info@bacalaocuisine.ca Thanks! Andrea More

Nice ambience, good service and great food! A must visit if you enjoy fine dining. Would have gone back every night if it weren't for the fact that we had to be reasonable with our expenses, but absolutely worth every penny.

We decided to try this restaurant for a special birthday dinner but, We were very disappointed. After arriving on time for our reservation, we were told our table was not ready and we were led down the hall and told to sit and review the menu until someone came back for us. We did as we were told but we... More

Thank you for posting such a lovely photo of Bev, one of the hardest-working people at Bacalao. Most often in the restaurant industry, one sees men in the dish washing position, mainly for the strength needed to hoist trays of dishes and large pots but Bev has taken on the challenge with poise and aplomb and does a marvelous job.... The restaurant is in a wonderful house located just a little outside down town. This was our first restaurant experience in St. John’s and I'm glad we came here. I love how the restaurant is in a house! The server was helpful and the food was good. We had brunch there and ordered the seafood chowder that was fresh and... More

We had the pleasure of eating at Bacaloa this past June while visiting St. John's. We got there late on a Sunday without a reservation and got pleasantly seated even though they were quite busy. My husband ordered a scallop appetizer and cod main. I had the butter poached lobster. It was one of the best lobster dishes I've ever... More

Our party of two adults and a 10-year-old stumbled into Bacalao unsure of our choice, but were left dazzled by the quality of the meal and grateful for the exceptional service. Thank you!
