Very good meal, nice setting

The meal was very good, but not up to the usual standards I have experienced at the restaurant. The lobster bisque had the right flavouring and taste but was a bit thin; the entree cod was also well-prepared but the texture suggested it was fresh-frozen … but I could be wrong. My partner had the... read more

Full disclosure: we had brunch, without reservations and very late in the "brunch time frame window" on a Sunday. The wait staff was friendly and yet somewhat formal. Atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice, with several rooms of the house serving as individual dining spots. There were numerous other very large parties elsewhere in the restaurant although we had... More

We had the cod dinner, the lamb and the chicken. All were very good. We especially liked the vegetables that came with the meals because we were feeling a little vegie starved after a few weeks of driving around the out-ports. Huge pour on the wine too! Very enjoyable evening and the desserts sounded great but we were to full... More

We were underwhelmed by our meal in what we expected would be top notch. The fish was well cooked but not anything special. The risotto was unevenly cooked. The decor was dark, looked dated. For what was served it was over priced.

We looked forward to eating at one of the premier restaurants in St. John's. Rated at #4 and looking at their menu on Trip Advisor we had picked out what we wanted to eat. However, when we arrived the menu was different from what we had seen, and they were out of a couple of the items. It took a... More

Great restaurant. The food, service and environment were welcoming. I have had traditional Newfoundland food in the past and the gourmet version was amazing.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the lobster bisk appetizer and our drinks. We thought the main meal wasn't as good as we expected it to be judging from the delicious appetizer. I found parts of my lamb rather dry and flavourless and he found his chicken to be rather dry as well. For what we paid for the meal... More

myself and my husband took my parents here for brunch and were very satisfied with the food and service. I had the cod fritters which were amazing and my husband had the French toast. Cannot wait to go back!

Oh Bacalao I love you! I've quite often taken a friend as a birthday gift! It's classy with the perfect selection of wonderfully tasty food. Something for every taste prepared like it was hand made 'just for you'! I've been for brunch, lunch and dinner many times and never disappointed. Just a couple of weeks ago I enjoyed the roasted... When I first came to St John's a few years ago, Bacalao was the best in the city. Unfortunately, it has failed to keep up with that reputation and has fallen short of the rapidly evolving local culinary scene. Places like Mallard, Adelaide, and Raymond's have left them in the dust in terms of imagination. This menu never really changes... More
