On this occasion, I ate here for brunch. I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict for my brunch. The service was good, but the time waiting for the food was a little long for brunch. I found the food was just average. It was nothing overly special that would be memorable. My partner had sausage and eggs and it was... More

We went as a party of five, had some wine and full three courses. The selection was large enough that we tried a little bit of each. The lobster was so good, and the amuse bouche style appetizers were delicious, had to take pictures. Plan for a larger budget as it is a bit pricey but worth it for the... More

Service great, they were able to accommodate 9 people for dinner on short notice. A few of us had the cod and pork belly, but unfortunately we found it to be extremely salty. Now I recognize salt cod was cured in salt but one of my pieces was so sodium heavy, it was not edible. The pork belly was also... More

We stopped in for lunch and had a great meal. Nice use of local ingredients, it was all really yummy. Our server was really nice. It isn't a cheap budget place but good ingredients don't come cheap! I would highly recommend it.

I went to this restaurant while on vacation in St. John's and it was lovely. Everything is made with consideration to the local berries, fish and sweets. The restaurant is in an old house with dinners are separated in different rooms, which really adds to the intimacy of the setting. The cocktail options were really special and each offered something... More

I visited St. John's a couple of times this year and was taken out by 3 residents of the City to dine at The Bacalao. I found it to be a lovely experience. It was warm and inviting. But most importantly the food was fabulous. The menu offers a l variety of specialized Newfoundland cuisine that suits the most discerning... More

The girls and I have been at Bacalao several times and each time we had a very relaxing evening. The menu has a nice selection especially Nl. dishes and nice wine list to choose from. Staff are very attentive and informed when it comes to the menu. Parking is at the back of the restaurant its not too bad considering... More

It will meet your expectations in every way AS LONG as you make a reservation. I can't stress this enough. If you're coming from out of town, book a reservation ahead of time; don't wing it. We had the good fortune of a massive wind storm in St. John's (a week ago) which left us sitting in our quaint dining... More

Food was excellent. Service was wonderful. Great for a romantic meal...lighting was a tad too low. Great take on traditional Newfoundland fare.

This restaurant serves a nice variety of local seafood and game which is all very good, especially cod tongues, but I was very impressed with the steak. I usually order steak when visiting a steakhouse but Bacalao hold their own. An Entrée can top out @ $50 which is the norm for a restaurant of this calliper. nice atmosphere and... More
