What a brilliant idea to say bye to St John's. We went to lunch at Bacalao before heading to Twillingate. Foods were excellent, service is impeccable.

Bacalao has an interesting menu using fresh local produce and offering a modern take on more traditional Newfoundland dishes. It also has a broad and well considered wine list. Staff were charming and helpful and we found it reasonably priced for the quality of the meal. The scallops on fennel puree and the pappardelle with snow crab, artichokes and mushrooms (... More

Business lunch, we were nicely received at the front door and shown to good table in the front room. First off, the service was spotty, we went from having our server almost too much in our faces in the beginning to almost AWOL near the end as the place filled up.we had to flag her down in the end to... My husband and I went to this restaurant because it was well rated by tourist guide books. We enjoyed our food. The wine, suggested by our waiter, paired very well with our meal. Our waiter was excellent. We did, however, find the price on the expensive side. Closed on Mondays.

We have been here several times for dinner and have always been pleased. So decided we would try brunch. We were a group of four and 3 of us ordered eggs over easy and all yolks were well done! Seems like a pretty simple thing ? And hash browns were missing from my eggs in nest! My father noted that... More

We ate here twice during our stay in St. John's. My recommendation is this: if you have plenty of money to spend, then you will have a good meal here and a good evening. The food is good and there are some good wines you can buy on the menu. Over the two days the service was rather variable, by... More

We travelled to St. John's in July, 2014. Our great tour guide from Tours by Locals (Elizabeth) recommended Bacalao, so we booked a reservation. My husband and I are "foodies", and we were blown away by our meal. It was so memorable that we cancelled our reservation at Raymonds for our final night in St. John's and returned to Bacalao... I did not know what to expect from restaurants in St. John's, but I would have to say that Bacalao has to be one of the top 10 restaurants I have ever eaten at. The atmosphere, service, food presentation and quality was off the charts. A highly recommendable restaurant.

This restaurant has a warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and a superbly innovative menu. The owner is a smart sommelier, and each aspect of a meal is top-knotch. Highest recommendation.

This was the best restaurant we went to in St John's. Decor is warm and inviting (in fact, it feels a bit like you're in someone's home... mostly because it's obviously converted FROM a home), service excellent. We had the dish for which the place is named, the Bacalao - salt cod, skin on, with pork belly. Absolutely tremendous. The... More
