Visited looking for a good meal with Newfoundland traditional fare. Bacalao was recommended by residents and trip advisor. The food was tasty and artfully presented. A mix up in my order happened. I asked for the " seafood special", wanting wolf fish cheeks, and got the other seafood special. When addressed, the server brought me a side dish with the fish... More

The food was very tasty and the service was great. The jiggs dinner rolls are a favourite and the new menu item, short ribs and pasta was Delish. The only negative was the room was cold and they had run out of the dessert we wanted.

My husband and I visited Bacalao for dinner just before Christmas, while visiting family in St John's. I attempted to make a reservation on-line but did not receive an answer to my email; after a couple of weeks I called. The dining room was cozy; a little dark. The kitchen was out of the game entree and the wine list... More

Good selection. I had the George Street breakfast. A nice twist on your traditional big breakfast. Excellent back bacon,moose/pork sausages and toutons complimented with eggs, beans and homemade hash browns.

The food here is excellent. I had brunch on a weekend morning. It's maybe a 15 minute walk from town, but it's good to get away from the summer hordes of tourists. My only complaints were that the service was a bit slow and the price quite high (but everything in St. John's is expensive). The food itself was amazing!

We had the Charcuterie platter which was all game and the Game special which was Lamb and the Cod dinner. The amuse bouche was a smoked scallop which was delicious. For dessert we had the ginger cake (not my favorite) and today's little indulgence which shortbread meringue and chocolate bark. Service was excellent. The restaurant is located in a house... More

Ok, just go here to eat!!!! Shall I elaborate? Starter? A small portion of a typical local "corned beef " type dinner. - rolled up like Spring Rolls- the fish included a small shot of brined water to douse the food or just chug down. All in our party had the halibut special- it melted in your mouth- amazing. We... More

Just home from another great meal. Filet for him and catch of the day for me. Both well executed. Server helped with the wine selection and it was spot on. A beautiful French blend that married well with both choices. We started with the seafood chowder- love the touch of Pernod. Highly recommend this place.
