Excellent location with outdoor seating

We stumbled upon Saint John Ale House while we were walking around the waterfront. They have outdoor patio seating. We really enjoyed the kettle chips as our appetizer. Both of our meals were good. Loved the selection of draft beer. Just wished they had a "seat yourself" sign for the patio... read more

This is a fantastic place. Whenever I am in Saint John I always make sure to visit the Ale House. The food is absolutely amazing, it's improved from when I fist started visiting and that is saying something. Excellent selection of beers, mean you can always try something new. For me, one of the best, if not the best place... More

You need to eat here is all I have to say!!! YUM YUM YUM. The food was amazing, we ate on the patio. The Haddock was so good, my wife had the chicken fingers. We never order chicken fingers... these were not your everyday chicken fingers. The flavour and amount of meat were amazing. You will not leave hungry. Our... More

Passing through St. John, our hotel recommended we go to Saint John Ale House. They were right. The restaurant is located in a re-purposed mill building that is now a neat mall plus public facility. SJAH is accessible from within the mall or from on the street; and if this does not suit your purposes, there are six other restaurants... More

Decided to try the Ale House since it was close to our hotel, and let me tell you my parents and I were pleased. We were lucky enough to have Andrew and our waiter. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Ordered deer tartar, beer wrapped scallops, seared halibut and prime rib sandwich. Everything was unreal. Great beer, amazing food and good atmosphere.... More

We enjoyed a great meal at the Saint John Ale House. My husband and loved the buttermilk chicken fingers - they were the best chicken fingers we have ever tasted. We also ordered a salad that was excellent. Our friends got the spinach dip with pitas and it was delicious too! The beer selection was great also, we got the... More

The beer was pretty good. The server was incredibly helpful and entertaining. It's just great to get the info that helps you make a decision not that that the menu is huge. It's pretty tempting to try the buttermilk chicken fingers because a TV show loved them but we all tried different things and they were all tasty. The mushrooms... More

I have never had a bad meal at the Ale House but there is nothing special about the food. It is pub food done well and I find it a little overpriced for what it is. Nice atmosphere on the boardwalk and a popular spot in the city.

Great service average food. We both ordered the buttermilk chicken overcooked and dry. Great location but not impressed with the food. The beer was great.

We were on our way and decided to stop for a meal - we chose this trendy Ale House place because of the location across the harbour in the city centre and the menu offered seafood and fish. What a lovely meal! I had scallops served with pit fruits (perfectly prepared and visually stunning plate) and my husband had the... More
