Took my kids here this afternoon to break up the Christmas shopping. We were seated quickly and a friendly waitress took our drink orders. To be honest I was here to try the dark Hawaiian porter from Hammond River Brewery that is on tap here and at few other locations and not for the food. It has disappointed in the... More

Downstairs is a kind of temple devoted to beer. Had the local hammond river brewing Hawaiian porter. Excellent. Not too kokonutty just right.

I recently visited the Ale House with a group and was not impressed with the menu selection. As well everything was very overpriced. The taste and quantity of the food was great, except for the fries. We had a group of about 20 people and we all agree that the fries were way too salty. Cocktails prices averaged $10-11. Service... Hi there - thanks for taking the time to write. I'm thrilled you were happy with the quantity and the taste of our food. That rather explains our pricing. We use only premium ingredients in all of our products, from cocktails (which, also, are all at least 2oz premium liquor) fresh squeezed juices, etc, to the food that our team... More

I think the Ale House has a very talented chef as was seen on "Top Chef Canada" but the menu at Ale House has a lot to be desired, or the Chef has does not have free range or his hands are very tied up? In my opinion, everything could be better! Ale House is not my first, second or... More

Had the famous buttermilk chicken and fries. Did not disappoint - very tasty and large serving. Didn't have room for dessert!

Invited to dinner by friends. We were advised to try the famous buttermilk chicken, which i believe was featured on "you gotta eat here". To be honest, the chicken was so-so. Edible for sure, but not the big hit that we expected. Fries were decent, but again just okay. We had heard rave reviews re this place, and the prices... More

At the suggestion of Kathleen at Fundy Heights B&B, we dined at St. John Ale House. The selection of good Canadian and other beer was impressive and the food good. A good choice for a casual dinner right inSt. John's center.

We had an fantastic halibut dinner in the upstairs section of this restaurant. The fish was freshly caught and prepared with delicious accompaniments. The manager stopped by several times to chat and ask how our meal was. We also had a beer and an appetizer of Digby scallops in the bar downstairs that was very nice. Staff was friendly. Would... Had lunch there with my maritime mum and Dad. The place was super clean, the service was great and they had a nice selection of salads as I am trying to eat more sensibly and healthy. 32 beers on tap!!! I will definitely be back next trip to Saint John.

Hi Phil! Thanks so much for the kudos. Those great salads change seasonally, so be sure to come back soon to see what we have for you. The 32 beer on tap? I recommend a flight or two if you're short on time! Hope to see you again, Cheers More

We were on a cruise that stopped in St John, and as always, were on the lookout for something local, and unusual. What a treat we found here! I ordered two dishes to share, Periwinkles, and Quahogs with Octopus, both were excellent! Our server demonstrated how to extract the tasty little Periwinkles, which I had never eaten. Made me want... More

Thanks for taking the time to write! You're absolutely right - Periwinkles are the little overlooked gems of the ocean! Happy our server was able to walk you through it, they can be tricky. Hope to see you back for more great food and drink soon! Cheers More
