At the suggestion of Kathleen at Fundy Heights B&B, we dined at St. John Ale House. The selection of good Canadian and other beer was impressive and the food good. A good choice for a casual dinner right inSt. John's center.

We had an fantastic halibut dinner in the upstairs section of this restaurant. The fish was freshly caught and prepared with delicious accompaniments. The manager stopped by several times to chat and ask how our meal was. We also had a beer and an appetizer of Digby scallops in the bar downstairs that was very nice. Staff was friendly. Would... Had lunch there with my maritime mum and Dad. The place was super clean, the service was great and they had a nice selection of salads as I am trying to eat more sensibly and healthy. 32 beers on tap!!! I will definitely be back next trip to Saint John.

Hi Phil! Thanks so much for the kudos. Those great salads change seasonally, so be sure to come back soon to see what we have for you. The 32 beer on tap? I recommend a flight or two if you're short on time! Hope to see you again, Cheers More

We were on a cruise that stopped in St John, and as always, were on the lookout for something local, and unusual. What a treat we found here! I ordered two dishes to share, Periwinkles, and Quahogs with Octopus, both were excellent! Our server demonstrated how to extract the tasty little Periwinkles, which I had never eaten. Made me want... More

Thanks for taking the time to write! You're absolutely right - Periwinkles are the little overlooked gems of the ocean! Happy our server was able to walk you through it, they can be tricky. Hope to see you back for more great food and drink soon! Cheers More

My wife and I stopped in for a quick beer and ended up staying for several hours sampling quite a few of the local brews including "barking squirrel" and "unibrow"!

We arrived on a Tuesday evening in St John and the ale house was recommended by the Front Desk Clerk, Kevin at the Hilton Hotel. Most definitely a good recommendation. It is about 100m from the hotel so getting there wasn't too difficult. It was a quiet evening but we decided to stay and try the place out. We had... More

Had dinner there last night. Spotted a mouse running under an adjacent table and then right behind us. We mentioned this to our server and she proceeded to tell us that mice are problem in the whole building. She also advised that at night when there is no one around and they are cleaning up they see lots of them... More

Hello, thanks for taking the time to write. I can tell you that what you experienced is most definitely not the norm. Our building has very strict pest control standards. As far as your Bangers and Mash are concerned. the sausages are not only local pork, but made in house - from grinding to stuffing. There's a lot of love... More

We all met at SJ Ale House on Friday night and enjoyed the food. We tried and loved the appetizers, the scallops, the fries, and more. Everyone loved the local beer. The waitress was the best. She kept the food and drinks coming. We really did not want to leave :)

Ale House gives a great atmosphere to either sit down and eat an excellent meal or enjoy many of the beers on tap, and to top it all off you can enjoy the board on a beautiful summer night.

Visited this place twice already whilst I've been over, food is great, tasty and un-complicated. The Bangers were great and the Rosemary fries were a nice twist on a classic. Phenomenal beer selection which would keep most entertained for a few nights
