We have stopped by the News Café several times over the past year for breakfast. Each time the food has been very good. During the nice weather it is nice to sit outside. We have not had lunch there lately but in the past the food was very good.

I wasn't impressed with the food, it was cold for the most part and will only visit to sit outside during the jazz festival with a cold glass of wine. Great location to gaze at the historical exchange district and imagine how it boomed at the turn of the 20th century

Perhaps the cafe doesn't market itself properly, but I think it's a Winnipeg cultural staple in many ways. To start with, even if you're not at the cafe for an event or for any particular reason besides a nice breakfast, it's worth a stop: tasty food at reasonable prices, and a great patio in summer. But it's more than that... More

This is a neat little place to stop for a beer, wine, or hot beverage in the middle of Winnipeg's Exchange district. Sitting outside on the patio, you can take in the beautiful buildings. Inside there's a stage which occasionally hosts performers which fit the setting and aren't too much to make you feel irritated. You go up to the... More

My wife and I recently visited the Winnipeg Free Press News Cafe. We went because we understood they offered a Muffaletta sandwich on the menu. We must say we are a bit spoiled having eaten this sandwich in New Orleans, where I believe it was invented. Our sandwich was served on a nice warmed flatbread. The filling was OK, not... More

Breakfast or lunch, you always know that the food will be good. Great soups! Great sandwiches! Salads are always fresh. Great value and great service! One of my favorite spots for a quick lunch.

I had the Chroizo Sausage and Egg, and it was perfect. What's more, the price was just right for the quality of food. I'd prefer being served at my table rather than purchase at the counter, but oh well. I will return.

The News Cafe has really nice breakfasts that compliment their coffees and teas. We visited the cafe 3 times during our weekend in the Winnipeg and were impressed each and every time. The prices are a bit high, and so that's the only thing keeping me from giving a full recommendation to what is a fine establishment.

The food was excellent, with good service and reasonable prices, but on the patio I was harassed by a steady stream of beggars on the adjacent sidewalk. Maybe better to eat inside, though that would be a shame on a perfect spring day.

This is a place which promotes social interaction in a world that is increasingly avoiding face to face contact. The location in Old Market Square and the concept is brilliant but they could not pull it off, if the cafe did not hold its own with ambience and food quality and….it does! The News Cafe was the perfect place for... More
