I went to the Frenchway for lunch last Saturday with my wife and her sister. I had a Croque Monsieur which was a bit chewy and smothered in Bechamel sauce. The roast potatoes were wonderful, though. My wife had a spinach salad which she said was average and her sister had turkey curry soup which was mainly broth with only... More

I've given Frenchway a few chances and every time I go I leave feeling disappointed. I've been for breakfast, lunch and tea and I won't be going back. Breakfast- I had french toast (which was incredibly dry), my friend had the cafe breakfast (only place in Winnipeg that refuses to upgrade toast to a fruit cup, over cooked potatoes, tasteless... I used to enjoy the ambience and warmth of the tiny little establishment on Academy. The Lilac location had neither of these characteristics. I dropped in for an afternoon dessert to a largely deserted room . The waitress said that they were out of this and this and maybe I should come to the counter to see what was available.... More

I love this place. Wonderful lunch platters, great breads and desserts, with the heartiness and flavor of good country french cooking.

I have been here several times and the food here is always fresh and they use organic whenever possible. The salad I ordered had lots of berries and nuts and the bread with it was delicious. Their desserts are great. i especially like the butter tarts and the one with layers of flaky pastry filled with a custard type and... More

Went for brunch with my family on a Saturday around 10 and found the place very crowded. Managed to get a table and service came over quickly. Ordered the usual items such as crepes, eggs etc. and I got a chicken salad sandwich with excellent curry turkey soup. The entire bill with tax and tip came to $70 for 5.... More

This is a very pleasant neighbourhood joint and a good place to go for brunch on the weekend although it gets busy and you may have to wait. A fairly limited menu but one good option is a 'build your own' omelette which lets you choose three additional ingredients. Cheerful service. There is a range of breads to buy to... More

I have eaten at the Lilac location (that's the only one left, right?) twice in the last couple of weeks, both time for breakfast, mostly because there is almost nowhere else to go in the area (except Stella's, which I think is just the worst ever). Anyways. It is an okay place overall. I had french toast on the first... More

Food was okay but I preferred the previous business (bread & circuses). Service was quite bad for us and even worse for the couple next to us who had to consistently ask just to have their order taken to even getting their bill. They were irate with good reason. In general I found the food way overpriced for the type... More

We only stopped in at this place because we couldn't get into a nearby restaurant but the super-friendly service and excellent french-style mains were great. Not the place to go if you're on a diet but worth a special treat.
