Uncomplicated French Cuisine

Great classic French food with lovely atmosphere. Frog legs and Duck Confit are some of my favorites. The desserts are also very good. All with a less pretentious feel then a typical "Classic French" restaurant

I chose Resto Gare in St. Boniface to have an intimate gathering of 20 family members and friends to celebrate my "special" birthday. As my husband was born and raised in France, he knows good French food and wines. Resto Gare lived up to and surpassed our expectations! They have a beautiful menu of authentic French cuisine from the classic... More

There's not too many restaurants in Winnipeg that I'd give four-stars to, because Winnipeg restaurants are typically so INCONSISTENT! This was my first time at Resto Gare (in memory, that is), and based on their side-salad, rack of lamb, and gluten-free chocolate cake (more like a dense brownie), I am happy to give them 4 stars. Salad was tasty (it... More

Today we visited resto gare. It was featured in ciao Winnipeg with set menus for the month of August. There were 2 choices at $12 each. Reasonable I would say. Salmon burger was served with carrot fries. Somewhat like yam fries. Very tasty! The other ouch feature was a beef poutine. Mom said it was exceptional also. This is one... More

Been here five or six times in the past couple of years; price point prevents it from being a more regular occurrence. Went in around 4pm spur-of-the-moment on a Friday; greeted cordially as always. Food is very good, higher-end French provincial, but the menu really hasn't changed in a while. We really go for the wine; EXCELLENT selection and if... More

I went to Resto Gare with my family while visiting Winnipeg to celebrate my father's retirement. We sat inside the rail car area, which was lovely. Our server Matt was fantastic! He did a great job all evening, making sure we were well looked after and he was very entertaining! All of us enjoyed our meal - the duck was... More

Superb service, interesting and relaxing ambiance, plenty of available parking, and, most importantly, tasty food. I had the chicken and my wife had the filet mignon, as part of a special menu for my mother's birthday. Well done!

Mushrooms and escargot was pretty good French onion soup in opinion was off the mark Wife had the cheese appetizer and she was OK with it. For our main course the wife had the duck Again it was OK the rice overtook the meal. I had the lobster and it was pretty darn good. I really enjoyed it. The service... More

A very good meal in a lovely restaurant in a transformed rail car. The homemade soup and desserts were scrumptious. Would definately recommend.

I went to Resto Gare after not having been there for a number of years. After I managed to find parking, I recommend looking on the street vs trying the puzzle parking lot, I was pleastanly surprised. I was there for a buisness dinner and we were seated in the back at a nice table. The one server was good,... More
