Description: OLO is where the community comes together to congregate for camaraderie...
OLO is where the community comes together to congregate for camaraderie and the comfort of a good meal. While many restaurants boast about their farm-to-table philosophies, OLO executive chef and owner Brad Holmes knows relationships are forged over food. He fills OLO's kitchen with quality B.C. Ingredients, such as island-raised beef, fish plucked straight from nearby waters, and produce tenderly grown by our local farming friends. Each incorporated ingredient is purchased directly from OLO's hard-working neighbours who produce beautiful food with great care. Nestled in the heart of Victoria, B.C.'S bustling Chinatown neighbourhood, OLO pays homage to the region's trade hub roots. The word "Olo" translates to "hungry" in Chinook Jargon, a derivative language of English, French, Chinese and Chinook. Just as the Pacific Northwest was a gathering place for traders hawking their wares in pioneer days, OLO celebrates Cascadia's role as a cultural melting pot by serving as a hub for neighbours to gather and break bread. The bar program highlights the region's bounties with an impressive list of B.C. Distilleries, breweries and wineries, as well as rare Canadian and American whiskies. The beer selection includes varieties brewed throughout the province, the Cascades and established Old World master breweries, with additions from the Pacific Northwest and Europe. Three select taps of award-winning Driftwood beer, crafted here in Victoria, are also featured for parched guests. The thoughtfully curated wine list focuses on small-batch producers showcasing the best vintners the Okanagan and Vancouver Island have on offer. Perfectly mixed cocktails showcase local producers and ingredients, and boast a variety of whimsical infusions from foraged botanicals, shrubs from house-made vinegars, and healthful tonics to island spring water. OLO's creative cocktail list is split into six categories, including Solera Barrel Aged Old Pal, Shrub & Vinegars, Sorbet & Sparkling, Childhood Favourites, Local Showcase and Flavoured Ice beverages. The dining area's design reflects the agricultural history of Canada with a playful modern twist, cultivating a warm yet lively atmosphere. With farmhouse-inspired elements such as rustic post and beam construction, cedar-clad walls, a wall of preserves, living herbs and wheat grass growing in the dining room, OLO feels familiar while always offering fresh tastes for locals hungry for more than just a meal.

We shared the Chefs menu and you can tell how much love for food went into it. The sea urchin pasta was my favorite. Service and cocktail/wine selection were both excellent as well. Atmosphere and Style support the farm to table experience.

We last visited Ulla in Feb and gave it a very good review. Now the name has changed to Olo but our recent visit was disappointing. The menu was limited and the prices increased. Corkage fee still $25 per bottle.

This was a disappointing dinner as the menu was quite limited. No local chicken for example. Service was good and attentive. Corkage fee was $25 per bottle. Total bill for four people was a bit steep ( $250) especially as we provided our own wine and only one alcoholic beverage was ordered. It was much better under the old Ulla... More

For those of us wondering where Ulla went, it's been replaced with the owners new innovative restauarnt offering called Olo. A bit more neighbourhood casual menu and a refresh of the interior with more community style tables. New menu with same fabulous food and seems like a smaller wine list but still good - and my personal thanks for keeping... More

We have visited Olo two times in the past month. Both times it has been wonderful. It has also been great to see it busy, locals need to support these types of restaurants in order to keep them open, and to get other chefs to open new ones. The wait staff was knowledgeable and excited about the food which is... More

Group of 6 went for dinner a few days ago. It was my first visit since the change from Ulla and I studied the menu online in advance. The brassica sprout salad intrigued me, as did the octopus, and the duck egg dish. I started off with what I am certain is a Shawn Soole-created cocktail. This was not a... More

My boyfriend surprised me by taking me out to OLO and it was fantastic! We had a reservation and ended up waiting quite a while to get our table but the server was very nice about it and we are not normally very fussy about things like this, we have both worked in restaurants and understand that these things happen.... We really enjoyed our meal. Service was excellent. We felt something was off with our wine and they quickly replaced it. The flatbread was very good and the halibut was as good as I have ever had with a sauce so delicate and full of flavor. We also had the octopus which was good but not great. We would definitely...
