High hopes, mostly fulfilled by great service

We had heard about Brasserie L'ecole and were intrigued by their NO RESERVATIONS policy. The first time we stood in line for about 20 minutes to be told we could get in at around 7.30pm. (It was a Saturday night) The second time we were first in line at about 5pm and waited for about 1/2 hour in... read more

We arrived early to make sure we could get in. Half an hour before opening we were second in line. That doesn't mean you're the second served. The mussels were great but not an appetizer size. They were delicious. The onion soup is great. We ordered the steak done two ways. The first was a braise beef which was tender... More

Xmas gift certificate took us here and it was terrific. Arrived 530pm to avoid disappointment and waiting, which began around 630pm. Bit cold on arrival but warmed up with a French lager :) Fresh French bread. Endive salad huge and tasty, plenty for both. Moule frites copious with moules extraordinaire. Brasserie burger is best in town. Note "specialty" fries are... More

Very impressed by this very-French restaurant. We were very warmly welcomed, seated quickly and our charming, very knowledgeable server made excellent suggestions and took the time to chat with us briefly. The food was beautifully presented, cooked exactly as described/requested and the trout and sole were both very fresh, with perfect accompanying sauces. We wish we lived on the Island... More

If I was asked me what my last meal might be, a meal from Brasserie L'ecole is a leading option. This is the second time I have visited L'ecole and the quality of service and food did not change the slightest Get there early! If you're not one of the first groups there, they are very accommodating and will call... More

This restaurant doesn't accept reservations, so you have to go early or after the initial dinner rush. It's worth the wait! The food and service are great. We had the salmon, sausage and creme brûlée which were all delicious!

lined up to get inside. Great food, great service. Best trout I've ever had, and the mussels were well done. I would go back next time I'm in Victoria.

No reservations are permitted so people line up at 5:30 when they open to either get a table or book a later time that evening. Not that many tables available so you should arrive around 5:00 or 5:10 to get a table. However the food is just average in my opinion. I had the 16 ox rib-eye and fries, a... More
