The food is wonderful here, and so are the people that work here. We consider ourselves food snobs, and we dine out a lot. We wish that this one was located closer to our home so that we could go there every week!

Delicious traditional French Cuisine that was appropriately priced. Quaint atmosphere without the usual pretentious French waitstaff. We received an extensive lesson in French wines and the owner/host helped us pick a wine that fit exactly what we were looking for. Don't walk past the restaurant when you think it may not be open based on the outward appearance. This place... More

I'm cheap and my wife is a self-described 'plain food' person... she doesn't like to take risks with food. But when in Victoria this summer we decided to have a special evening for ourselves and had heard good things about this little place. It's not much to behold from the street and if you didn't know to look for it... More

An excellent meal, with very, very well preparred food, and some interesting wine pairings... The escargot in red wine, demi & garlic were beautifully preparred. The duck was excellent, and the desserts were a pefect finish. Top that off with a waiter who clearly took his food & wine seriously (and still managed to not take himself too seriously at... More

We went to Matisse in November after a lovely weekend celebrating our anniversary. We had spent the evening out in the cold watching the Santa Claus Parade and what a way to finish the day! From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was welcoming and friendly, with delicious smells wafting from the kitchen. While the space was cozy, we... More

Restaurant Matisse was the most pleasant experience I’ve ever had at a French restaurant. A great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or just being on vacation in Victoria! John, the owner and his staff were extremely friendly and approachable – not stuffy at all. John stopped by the table a couple of times just for a short chat and... More

Excellent classically prepared French cuisine, quiet subdued atmosphere, personal service, nice wine list. Fresh ingredients. Lobster thermador is as good as you will get anywhere. Figure $200 for a couple with $70/bottle wine; app., dinner, shared dessert.

We each had a four course meal with wine pairings and the food was fantastic! I love the fact they have a set menu with this but you are free to swap in and out with any other menu items. As my partner and I both chose different options aside from the dessert, in all we tried 7 menu items... More

We have eaten here a few times, and if you are looking for French cuisine in Victoria, this is the place to eat. A very good, "traditional" French menu (fish, meat, duck, with delicious sauces). If you have eaten in France you know what to expect: attention and energy spent on the cuisine, less on the ambience and the spectacle... More

This restaurant has exquisitely good food. Fabulous French cuisine is the order of the day. Local fresh ingredients are used daily, making the food sing with flavour. In a cozy space decorated with Matisse prints and beautiful flower arrangements, you are well attended by knowledgeable and amiable servers. Their fish dishes are particularly stunning. This place is elegant, but without... More
