My wife and I ate at Matisse last weekend and it was terrific from start to finish. The service was incredible; they were very attentive to our needs, made recommendations and substitutions as requested, and were incredibly friendly. The food was exquisite. This was one of our best meals ever, including beating some of the best known restaurants in the... More

Cozy restaurant with excellent food. Staff was excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. We each had the prix fix, with my wife particularly enjoying the bean salad and the filet of beef. Beef was tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly. I had the soup, crepe and rabbit. The crepe was outstanding and the rabbit was prepared just right. Normally I go for the... More

Being #1 I was hoping to receive a little more bang for my buck but I was sadly mistaken. My food was cold and undercooked the staff seemed cranky and rude like she didn't want to be there and hated her job. My suggestion is save your money and go else where.

This intimate restaurant was so welcoming and the food so outstanding that I will make a point to remember to reserve ahead for the next visit to Victoria. Some of us had the 3 course prix fix which was very flexible in the ability to substitute other menu items for a small charge.

Very hospitable and knowledgable staff in a nice, old downtown building. Romantic interior with enough privacy for every table. A great tip as an aperitif is the "perfect" gin and tonic, which is indeed perfect (the secret is in the grapefruit peel…). The food is delicious, we had the prix fixe menu, but changes or additions are no problem. The... More

Great service and excellent food. My group of four enjoyed all of the dishes that we sampled. Try the gin and tonic, it is truly great. Even my husband, who says he hates gin, enjoyed the sip of the drink that I gave him. The portions were large, and the fish was fresh and well-prepared. The sable and escargot were... More

You cannot go wrong dining at Matisse! Each time we go it is amazing!!!! The owner, John, is quite a character and pretended to remember my husband after years when my husband greeted him by name. (Yes, it was so memorable the last time, my husband remembered John after 6 years!) We each opted for the prix fixe with wine... More

The chef, co-owners, and staff seem genuinely interested in making their clientele happy. It's a small restaurant, only 13 tables, which makes it a quiet enough place to carry on a conversation without raising your voice, and the ambiance is warming. Although I'm not a big fan of gin and tonics theirs was excellent and will be the best you'll... More

We came here based on Tripadvisor reviews, also wanting French cuisine. WOW firstly our on line request for a reservation was declined a day following, with a msg stating that they no longer accept on line reservations. We had to phone after 1700 to book. They insisted on us providing a credit card number at time of booking in order... More
