Being from California where foie gras is banned, we sought this bistro out. It was great, and the maitre d (who might be the owner) was just super. We had them do wine pairings for us and the waiter was so great and really knew his stuff. We're from the ca wine country and very seldom take down wines to... More

This is my favorite restaurant in Victoria. It has an atmosphere of elegance and attention to fine dining and wine selection. Its menu is À la carte with gourmet items to delight anyone's taste and their servers are very knowledgable in helping you choose an appropriate accompanying wine for your food. I absolutely love this place!

A lovely restaurant in the heart of downtown Victoria. A casual glance down Yates and you might miss it. Tucked seductively at the end of Yates, down a couple stairs sits Victoria's best restaurant. Traditional French meets a slight modern Pacific NW turn here and there. A small venue with only 13 tables, it's always best to have a reservation... More

Wow, what a nice evening with my wife last night. The staff, owner, food, atmosphere and location was PERFECT! Very knowledgable staff and wine sommelier. Entertaining and always making you feel special. The lobster bisque was to die for. Paired wines perfectly. Thanks for a home run! Can't wait to come back!

I asked the staff at the Empress where I could find the best duck breast. I found it here, at the Restaurant Matisse, all you could hope for & a real Matisse.

Every time we go to Matisse, we are surprised how it maintains its excellence, and we always tell each other that we have to go back again soon. It is the real little gem of a French restaurant, with fresh flowers in crystal and white table cloths and really friendly service. And it is really hard to get a reservation... More

This is the best french restaurant outside France we ever visited. Excellent food, cosy atmosphere, great personal attention from the owner. It is very small, so make a reservation well in advance.

A very pretty, tiny restaurant at the edge of the Inner Harbor, just before China Town. Delightful owner/host/server, John Phillips. Superb meals: we shared escargot in red wine reduction; I had bison flat iron steak, husband, boned rabbit stuffed with sausage (both excellent); for dessert I chose truffles and added Grand Marnier (which was gifted for my birthday by John... A very nice French bistro in Victoria. Ambiance is wonderful, owner charming and personable, the food delicious. And their wine selection is very good. Highly recommend.

We were greeted like old friends, even though it was our first time here! The meal was perfection. We will be back!
