A Very Nice Surprise

Walking into this cafe is like going back to 1950. The decor, counter with stools, tables and chairs really took us back. It has an extensive menu with well-prepared food and nice portions. Plating is definitely no-frills. The wait staff is friendly and remarkably efficient. We did not try... read more

The eggs were done to order, the service was quick and friendly. One feels like you're at an old friend's place, dropping by for a coffee and end up staying for breakfast. The bakery section looked like a good place to grab a snack, if only there was room after the filling breakfast.

Thinking this was a small bakery with unusual treats, we went inside and discovered its more like a restaurant than a bakery. We had coffee and desserts, but nothing was worth writing about. Maybe a better place to go for a lunch with friends? The service was very good and so was the pricing.

We went on a Saturday afternoon but morning would be better. There wasn't much left. The cakes were all taken. We had a nut tart. It was good. We had a macaron and they were small and ok. The staff assumes you know what you want even if never been there before. So be prepared for impatience as you are... More

We stopped in to pick up items for afternoon tea at our condo because we don't like to inflict our 2 and 4 year olds on people trying to have afternoon tea. The pastries on offer looked beautiful but nothing was labeled with name or price. The two girls behind the counter just watched us for a long time before... More

This little bakery/lunch spot is from the the fifties and has very delicious bakery items and soups and sandwiches, including gluten free bread and free wi fi, so we like to stop there when in Victoria. The prices are very reasonable, the staff are helpful and friendly. We recommend it.

The chocolate sachet torte cake with chocolate mousse filling is delicious! I wanted a special, but still reasonably priced, cake for my dad's 80th birthday celebration. The cake was a hit and I was happy to share with guests that it came from Dutch Bakery (rather than a big-box warehouse or generic grocery store chain). I ordered the size that... More

Ok, stopped in not once, but twice! The first time, my wife and I just stopped in for coffee and a snack (of the Vanilla Slice variety), but ended up chatting with a local couple that was sitting at the next table over, finding out that they've been frequenting the place for over 30 years! Call me crazy, but there's... More

Don't miss the Dutch Bakery if you're downtown Victoria! It is conveniently located on Fort St., and you'll want to go to Russell's Books next door anyway, so might as well stop here for coffee and a treat. The bakery delights are gorgeous and you can enjoy old favorites and new delights. On my most recent stop I had coffee... More
