Though I had a lovely, simple dinner here three weeks ago - during which I noted, but didn't mind, the slipshod service - returning today for lunch was a wrong move. I had phoned for and confirmed our reservation, but my earliest-arriving guest was told no booking had been made; he took refuge at the pub next door. When I... More

The space is pleasant, and for those who like to eat without a lot of background noise it is certainly preferable to the Penny Farthing, to which it is attached. The food is standard pub food, however: thoroughly ordinary and inoffensive. There are better restaurants in Oak Bay.

The food was good - a British Cobb Salad and two orders of the Seared Tuna and Warm Kale Salad, along with a side of yam fries. The service left much to be desired. We waited 20 minutes for our bottle of wine to arrive, only to be told that "we can't find that bottle". We ordered another bottle from... More

The website suggests this is a wine bar and charcuterie. It's not. It's attached to the Penny Farthing pub and that's where the food comes from. Aside from the server who was a total sweetheart it was a very disappointing visit with the food struggling to be mediocre and was expensive for what it was. Could not recommend the place... More

This is the sister property of the Penny farthing pub, so beware at both places. Without telling us in advance, they accepted our USA dollars and put the exchange rate backwards- making our USA dollar worth less than the Canadian dollar. No one else in town did this and we were also told that it is illegal.

Accepted US dollars but did not notify us of excess service charges If they are making this a regular practice their making a nice little profit on the side

If you feel fancy you might want to go to the Farthing's little sister, Vis a Vis. Prounce is "VISS" (rhymes with Miss) "A" (as in "eh") "VISS". It drives them nuts and then they go all french on you. A wine bar. Tiny little plates of food. Little cheese. Little meat. Little olive. Little bread. Little caper. Little grape.... More

My husband and I went last night to Vis a Vis before the opera, having been previously when it was actually a wine and charcuterie bar and having been blown away we were looking forward to a similar experience. I check the webpage to make sure there were no changes before making our reservation. 24+ different types of wine sold... More

Don't get me wrong- I like the place but the Penny is next door and with the food here now being much the same it is starting to be the place to be " in the pub with the kids". It originally had a complex menu that was baffling, especially after sipping a glass of wonderful wine but the wine... More

We stayed at the Oak Bay Resort and walked about 15 minutes to find a place to eat. We had our happy baby with us. I poked my head in and there wasn't a customer in sight. The waitress was super friendly and set us up outside. She even closed the plastic sheets to block the wind, turned off the... More
