We are conveniently located at 1218 Wharf Street, at the heart of downtown Victoria, in one of the city's beautiful heritage buildings.Shima Sushi Bar and Lounge features an eclectic menu of Japanese cuisine as well as a full service bar and lounge. The word Shima means island and what better place to have such a restaurant than on Vancouver Island in Beautiful British Columbia. We are situated, at 1218 Wharf street, in one of the oldest and historically vibrant structures in Victoria. Originally occupied by James Yates, in 1853 it became The Ship Inn, a saloon and liquor warehouse, boasting the first license to sell alcohol in Victoria. The stone walls, laid in a Halifax style, may have been built by the Hudson Bay Company French merchants. We offer an inviting and casual ambiance with a subtle, yet distinct Japanese feel. Our talented kitchen team is lead by owner and head chef, John Ngo, who has been passionate about Japanese cuisine since he started out in the family business at age 16. His vision behind Shima Sushi is to offer an "east meets west" version of Japanese cuisine that is both well-priced and delicious.

Great value

Beautiful restaurant near the water in a historic building. Their lunch specials are one of the best values in Victoria. The service is excellent and all together is a great dining experience

Excellent sushi, price and service. I went to three sushi places in town while visiting and Shima was far and away the best. Their sushi was the freshest and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend, whether for sit down or take out.

Loved the sushi. The only complaints were that the waiters took a little long to bring anything we asked (like drinks or napkins) and that the green tea came without the teapot, just one cup, so I had to keep asking to bring me more tea. other than that, excellent food choices, reasonable prices, great tasting sushi.

Stopped in for lunch...no view of the harbor even though it is within a pitching wedge of the water, but great sashimi...use locally caught product. Very quiet at lunch time...myself and one other party in the restaurant only. The waitress says it gets very busy at dinner...so go early.

We took a family member there for a Birthday Dinner on July 3rd as we do each year. Last year we were a little disappointed but this year it was outstanding! The service was excellent and the food was superb. We all had different meals. One Bento Box which looked and tasted wonderful. One DeLuxe Seafood Tempura. This was my... More

Great place after a long walking around down town Victoria. Quite and peaceful. Not expensive either and the service is attentive and friendly. We tried their lunch Bento box, lots of options and their rolls are tasty too.

The fanciest sushi restaurant I have been in. You have to walk down lots of stairs into their nice dinning room. However, the sushi could be better. I am spoiled from great sushi in Vancouver though.

My falimy came to this restaurant for a birthday party. The server suggest the dragon boat and some special rolls. The sashimi is so fresh melt in your mouth, and the hotnight roll and crazy monster is one of the best
