Description: Welcome to Jambo Grill. "Jambo” is Swahili, East African word, meaning hello. “Paan” is a betal leaf wraped with sweets & nuts. The dishes at Jambo Grill are Khoja style cooking, which is quite different from other Indian style dishes. Khoja’s, followers of the Ismaili Branch of Shia sect of Islam, our forefathers in India, were converted to Islam by the Dais from Iran. Thus, there is a strong Persian & Gujarati influence evident in our cooking. The Tandoor, a deep clay oven is one of the key elements in cooking these dishes, like Chicken Tikka, Kebabs & Naan bread whick cooks on the walls of the tandoor. Around the 1920s, the Khoja’s settled in large numbers in East Africa before immigrating to Canada in the 1970s. Certain African style dishes such as Cassava & Tilapia Fish are influences from that continent. Also cooking on the Grill (Sigdi) was very common in East Africa. Dishes like Mishkaki & Kuku Choma are prepared in this manner. At Jambo Grill we present you with the tastes of four continents, Iran, India, Africa, & Canada which we now call home. Our ingredients, tastes, & style of cooking are influenced by each of these unique places. Our Symbol Shaped like a betal leaf & the flame of a tandoor oven, on top of our naan bread, with paan leafs falling into a jar of sweet syrup.Voted Vancouver's Best East African and Indian Cuisine & Restaurant in Vancouver.

Just finished a take-out deal, so this will be skewed according to take-out. Delivery time was about 30 minutes so it was satisfactory. I would say this place is average. The spice is definitely toned down, so if you are afraid of spice, don't be afraid. Everything below is rated out of 5. Naan - Mediocre, it was cold, and... More

Firstly, the restaurant is clean and the staff are very friendly. We wanted to explore another Indian Restaurant and the Jambo Grill did not disappoint! Food was very tasty, their rib platter were very good. Butter chicken was exceptional. Their Garlic and Regular naan were to die for.... My friends and I would definetely be back.

The food is pretty tasty but the service is disorganized. The wait staff did not know who they were serving and mixed up our order- meaning they forgot to put my order in even after a lengthy conversation...at any rate it is has nice ambiance and good food but need to organize the serving staff.

Having moved away from Vancouver, there is nothing more enticing then returning to visit and hitting all our favorite old spots, and at the top of our list is Jambo Grill! It's differen't indian food then most people are used to, it has an african spin on it, and dishes that offer a taste of an african bbq. I always... More

This was our second visit to Jambo Grill after the restaurant was recommended by a work colleague with Indian roots that said that it was a tasty place frequented by locals. She was right and Jambo was a good choice! If it's busy, service can be a little on the slow side, but eventually you will get served. Dishes did... More

Great indian and East African food. Tasty,Spicy( if you want) and Hot. I loved the naan bread and especially like the masala mogo- cassava root sautéed in indian spices--. Service is good. Place is clean. Another perk is their Indian chai-- very very good. I will defiantly be a loyal customer when in Vancouver

I was taken here last year with friends. We all love Indian food, and this was heavenly. Each item was delicious and there were endless varieties of dishes from which to choose. We had the thali, and they really filled it with INCREDIBLE food. I recommend it for any time and would love to have it near where I live... More
