Welcome to Jambo Grill. "Jambo” is Swahili, East African word, meaning hello. “Paan” is a betal leaf wraped with sweets & nuts. The dishes at Jambo Grill are Khoja style cooking, which is quite different from other Indian style dishes. Khoja’s, followers of the Ismaili Branch of Shia sect of Islam, our forefathers in India, were converted to Islam by the Dais from Iran. Thus, there is a strong Persian & Gujarati influence evident in our cooking. The Tandoor, a deep clay oven is one of the key elements in cooking these dishes, like Chicken Tikka, Kebabs & Naan bread whick cooks on the walls of the tandoor. Around the 1920s, the Khoja’s settled in large numbers in East Africa before immigrating to Canada in the 1970s. Certain African style dishes such as Cassava & Tilapia Fish are influences from that continent. Also cooking on the Grill (Sigdi) was very common in East Africa. Dishes like Mishkaki & Kuku Choma are prepared in this manner. At Jambo Grill we present you with the tastes of four continents, Iran, India, Africa, & Canada which we now call home. Our ingredients, tastes, & style of cooking are influenced by each of these unique places. Our Symbol Shaped like a betal leaf & the flame of a tandoor oven, on top of our naan bread, with paan leafs falling into a jar of sweet syrup.Voted Vancouver's Best East African and Indian Cuisine & Restaurant in Vancouver.

My girlfriend and I were driving back from an event trying to find a place to eat. She read some reviews that Jambo had amazing food. We sat down to look over the menu which has both Indian and African cuisine. I was ready to go with my favourite butter chicken when our server came over. He introduced himself as... More

For those of you that love Idian/African food then this is the place. The great selection of grilled meat/fish dishes and the mouth watering curries make a visit to this place a must. We were here last night and they had some great singers performing a selection of Christmas, African and Indian music. It was a memorable evening. The service... More

We returned to this favorite restaurant of our a but we found some of our food lacking. The beef ribs were not meaty and to fatty. The chicken wings were good. The lamb kebab was not what we usually like re preparation. It was however tasty. Service was friendly and helpful.

I love going to Jambo, I always love the taste of the food. The mix of Indian and East African styles is tasty and distinct. It reminds me of my time staying with some Ismaili friends in Kenya. I don't have any problem with the food. My friends, always love the food as well. The only issues are with the... More

We were a foursome; first timers to the restaurant. Each of us was delighted! We had the rib platter, chicken in coconut curry, cornish hen, vegie burani, and my absolute favorite the 'bhell puri'. The rib platter had three rib styles, different cuts, varied seasonings, generous portions plus potatoes and salad. The marvelous sauce on the coconut curry was finished... More

I normally go for lunch..Owner Nash knows me well. I just phone in ahead of time,by the time I get there, the food is ready and hot. While having lunch, I order a couple of dishes to go also. The chicken curry is great. All vegetarian dishes are very well prepared. Samosa's and Kababs are the best in the city.... More
