A favorite among locals

This is a busy place, but usually no wait (or a very short wait for a seat during peak periods). After hearing mixed reviews about Sushiyama I decided to try it out. I sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the tako wabi, fresh oysters and the sashimi omakase. I ordered a large kirin. The server asked if I wanted a glass. A bit odd I thought. The tako wabi is octopus marinated in wasabi root and other goodies. Tasty... More

If 'Meh' had a photo on the dictionary, this place could own it. Busy and catering to locals who probably don't know any better this place serves up a brand of sushi only a couple of levels up from what McDonalds would serve. 100% canadian "chefs" seem to scoff at customers' comments while heads are down, pounding out the food.... We stayed in Vancouver this weekend for a short business trip and many friends there recommended this restaurant and we finally gave it a try. It was really really good and the staff were extremely friendly. I have been to many Japanese restaurants and have found that many of them were not owned by Japanese but Sushiyama is a truly... We went here because it was convenient to MEC where we were doing some shopping on a Saturday afternoon. There was a wait but considering how packed the place was, we didn't have to wait long. My husband and son said the sushi was fantastic with extremely large pieces of fish on the nigiri. The udon would have also been... More

Not to get totally sappy, but this me and Sushiyama go way back. I was six or seven when we first found this gem, and it was my favourite place to eat. I've been here for countless birthday dinners and many good memories. The owner was always so, so friendly. I don't think he recognizes me anymore but still very... More

Try some of the house specials! So delish... Time your visit around peak times if looking to avoid a wait. The decor and restrooms could use freshening up but the food is fantastic. Mmm tuna tataki!

After a day out on the boat, we checked out this place on our way home. Service was poor if I'm honest, but we went for an all you can eat menu for $14, which was fantastic! The food came out really quickly, and there was a large selection of choices. I would visit again, but maybe sit in the... More

Ok so this isn't going to be the best sushi you've ever eaten but for that cheap sushi fix this is great. It's busy, they do take reservations and take out is popular. I like the mango mango roll. The service is really hit and miss but never been a major issue.

This is a little hole in the wall totally underrated! The servers and chefs are Japanese and super polite. From the moment we walked in they were all smiles and seated us by the window. My boyfriends cup of tea was leaking and when we called them over they quickly replaced it and wiped up the mess. We had the... More
