Very tasty interesting food with great service and atmosphere. We already decided to eat there and we're looking in the window when a local resident, we believe, said 'great restaurant' as she walked by. Her tone of voice sounded like she wished she would be there that night. We shared four dishes, of which, the sea urchin and duck in... More

I wanted to try this place out because what piqued was that the menu says kobe beef, not kobe style beef or wagyu beef, you can't call it kobe unless it's from kobe..as far as I know Japan has ceased exporting kobe for awhile now, and even if you do find it it's very expensive. Of course when I asked... More

Yet again went back to Kingyo for lunch. Though the 8th anniversary lunch special looked tempting (and the table next to me ordered it and it looked fantastic), I, once again, ordered the tonkatsu. It was outstanding. Reminded me on Tonkiki in Meguro. Perfectly cooked rosu katsu. Great rice, excellent miso shiro and loved the brown rice tea. The staff... More

Even though my reservation was lost they still accommodated us. The restaurant had a cool looking communal table in the middle and the vibe was very hectic. The noise level was very high and the place moves at a fast pace with the very friendly waitstaff running between tables. The tapas portions were a very nice size and everything was... More

The restaurant is designed around a goldlfish theme and is reminiscent of izakayas you would see in Seoul. The servers and cooks are all Japanese and very polite. The food is quite good especially the sablefish but I would not recommend the Kobe beef. It is expensive and tasteless. The restaurant is also located about 10 minute walk from the... More

A west side gem. We've eaten a LOT of different Japanese cuisine around the world (yakitori, sushi, shabu shabu, etc.) and we liked every dish we tried at Kingyo. Very friendly staff, dark hip vibe and not too expensive.

We arrived without a reservation, and found the restaurant full (with many Japanese) at about 6:30 pm. They were able to seat us 20 mins later (we went for a stroll along the road). We sat at the long, shared table mentioned in other reviews - it's fine - and we had one of the best meals ever. We picked... More
