Some of the best Izakaya in Vancouver...

This place offers some of the most interesting Japanese lunch/bento I've ever seen. I tried the eel combo in a stone bowl and it was out of this world. The pork katsu is also very delicious. It seems like a very authentic place.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Food is super fresh. The place is cosy and typically Japanese with the staff happily shouting in Japanese with the orders. The service was the best I have encountered in my Canadian trip. The waitress serving us was most accommodating, changing plates, serviettes, refilling water, tea etc without asking. Price was very reasonable for the... More

One of our favourite japanese restaurants in Vancouver! Casual, comfortable, awesome staff and a menu like no other! Fresh Sheet each day, so we started with tempura cauliflower; no matter that it looked like we were fighting over the last piece - it was really delicious~! Tuna Tataki was lightly seared and served in a ponzu sauce-a little bite, a... More

Welcoming staff that are always looking to please are what describes the servers here. Screaming "welcome" in Japanese as soon as you walk through the door is what will wake you up the moment you step into Kingyo and make you realize you're in for something different. The menu has evolving special items that change from time to time with... More

The place is a bit small and a tad crowded but the food is outstanding- well priced ($200 for four ppl dinner with sake and two pitchers of Sapporo) and incredibly good. My personal favourites- tofu tomato salad and tuna tataki. I would gladly eat those all day any day! Very cute bathrooms.

Food was excellent and unique, I would recommend the TanTan mee. The soup is heavenly, so heavenly that we actually ordered it again. The Beef tongue was good and the Grill cod is just oh so nice. Do give it a shot if you like Japanese food.

This place is a gem! Do not miss it! Japanese home cooking style, with fantastic sashimi style options, and some clever (but not overwrought) fusion style quirks. The floor staff are all super genki, charming Japanese. The layout is cozy and modern with a long communal table in the middle. The food is just so delicious. I usually go for... More

Authentic Japanese food and atmosphere. We sat at the long table/bar which was a great place to see what other people were ordering. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Food was delicious with a good selection of non-sushi items for my wife who doesn't like sushi. I had the broiled mackerel - 2 varieties and they were very good. Prices... More

None of the typical sushi that is found on almost every block in Vancouver can be found here. Instead they serve up izakaya, which is Japanese food somewhat intended to be consumed with alcohol, or at least pairs very well with alcohol. I had been to an establishment serving izakaya maybe 25 years ago. But Kingyo was different. More contemporary,... More
