Great foof

Always busy, good place for small groups. Try ebi maya . Good value for the quality of the food . We went 8 times last 6 months. We were always happy with the friendly service.

The dishes are generally delicious but are quite small. So you need to order 4-6 dishes for 2 persons and the price adds up. But if you are looking for some snacks or light meal, it'll be a good choice.

Visited here with my cousin, his wife and my niece on a recent trip to Vancouver. Even though the place was fully booked, they managed to squeeze is in. The sashimi was good, but the highlight of the evening was the sushi. We all enjoyed the meal. The only recommendation I can make, is to extend their wine list, which... More

We ate lunch at Kingyo after walking around Stanley park (8.8 km). The food was really good. We ordered the salmon carpaccio that was so fresh and flavorful, and a salmon and ahi tuna bowl. Both came with miso soup. The tuna bowl was great and the salmon bowl was good. It was a very fun atmosphere and beautifully decorated... More

This was our second choice when the first-choice restaurant had no reservations. Good thing. The food was outstanding. We had the sashimi omakase (buttery-textured fish), the chawanmushi (with sweet corn -- nice addition), hot stone beef tongue (my favorite), black cod (my wife's favorite), sea urchin sushi (this was on the specials menu, and I'm really glad we got it... The food is very good and we would have had a great meal, if only the service hadn't been so painfully slow. It felt like we spent most of our meal just waiting for the server to come to our table. First we waited awhile for a server to even come to our table, and then our dishes were delivered... More

Party was disappointed to learn there wasn't a list of traditional sushi. I was disappointed to learn this wasn't a traditional Izakaya. Very little emphasis on chicken parts or products. So while we had some flavorful dishes, on balance, too expensive and not enough chicken products to make me happy!

When an "ethnic" restaurant is frequented by the same - in this case a Japanese Izakaya restaurant filled with Japanese visitors and locals, you usually can be assured that authentic is not just a buzzword being tossed out for PR purposes! Kingyo is a small'ish room on Denman St just outside the tourist area further up Robson to the South.... More

I stepped in to the award-winning Kingyo to peep at the menu and decide whether I wanted to have an appetizer here to start my night of multi-cuisine eating. Kingyo was packed and while I was browsing the menu, more than four parties agreed to wait the 1.5 to 2 hours for a table with another two or three parties... More

My wife and I were searching in the Downtown Vancouver area for an exceptional restaurant, but were getting frustrated with the mediocre or lack of reviews of most of them. We use the near me now feature on our smartphones. Somehow, by chance, while using urbanspoon, I saw that Kingyo had around 1500 reviews with a 90% rating. Thats always... More
