Sumptuous Japanese food with a twist

Recommended to us by a Vancouver Foodie Tour Rep, this gem of a restaurant is frenetic hive of activity serving up a range of meat and seafood Japanese dishes. The Chicken Karaage, Kobe Beef and Fried Calamari were all pretty special, while the service was excellent too.

If you're looking for amazing Japanese food that meanders from the usual Japanese fare, delivering bang-on flavors, go to Kingyo. They have sushi, sashimi, tempura and so much more but definitely not your average Japanese. Simple deep-fried corn, fat wadges of Sock-eye salmon sashimi, and miso infused black cod were some of the many mouth watering dishes we tried. It's... More

One of our friend took us Kingyo last year. We thank him so much for introducing Kingyo! This is so awesome and worth to walk or take taxi. We went lunch time when they serve their locally famous "Makuno-uchi Bento." In order to get it, you should be there no later than 11:30AM. However, there are so many other wonderful... More

All the food in here are delicious. My favorite is tongue grilled with hotstone. This place is always crowded so make sure you come early if you have larger group.

Famous and tasteful japanese restaurant in the West End of Vancouver, really close of English Bay. Sounds like if you were in Asia when you're coming in... The set and all the staff are impressive. Meals are so delicious and so well cooked. If you're looking for daily sushis or/and sashimis, it's not the right place. If you're looking about... More

We came by with a group of 8 people without a reservation, for a late lunch on a Saturday. Food was fantastic, service fast, kids catered for. Our vegetarian friend was thrilled to see some vegetarian options and had the vegetarian combo, said it was the best Japanese food she's ever eaten. I went for comfort food and had curry... More

If you're looking for Japanese food with a difference, Kingyo might fit the bill. It's Izakawa dining with lots of noise and excitement and the food is good as well! Try TamTam noodles if you like a little spice in your life. The tuna tataki is more generous and delicious than other restaurants . The deep fried cauliflower and corn... More

My husband, son and I stopped by here without a reservation for an early lunch. We were able to be seated immediately at a long family style rectangle table. There was an arrangement of tall bamboo plants down the middle for privacy. To start with we shared thin slices of kobe beef that we cooked on a hot stone. Delicious.... More

I wanted to compare this restaurant with one we often go in France. Food is excellent and service is fast with no rush though. I liked the organization of the kitchen and the way the brigade communicate. If you wish some intimacy this is not the place, if you're looking for an overwhelming linguistic experience this is the place.

This place was very busy and we could see why. Nice food, nice atmosphere. The kobe beef was delicious but not a lot in each serving (though this was expected due to the high quality and price of the beef!). The salmon carpaccio was beautiful too. Highly recommend but not for a long, quiet dinner.
