So good I ate at this place 3 times in the week we were here!

My family and I visited Vancouver in March and found this place while wandering around in Gastown - we absolutely love the food here - we liked every dish that we tried (have virtually gone through 1/2 the menu in our week here!) but our favorites: yakiudon, takoyaki, sashimi (super fresh), hakke... read more

Made a reservation for a group of 10 friends and last Thursday night. Service was slow, and most of us found our food being served lukewarm, not to mention a long wait time. At the end of the night when we asked for our separate bills she said she wasn't able to split them. This was a giant hassle as... More

I can't say enough about this place! I've been going there for years and it absolutely never disappoints! Authentic Japanese Izakaya - loud, fun, tasty tapas and cute cocktails. Always get the maguro five colour sauce, salmon 7 friends, bimbob stone bowls and octopus balls!! Always exciting specials and great atmosphere... And AFFORDABLE!! Always leave there stuffed and happy with... More

This was my second visit to this Izakaya in Gastown. It has a fun vibe but isn't overly noisy as some Izakayas can be. It's great place to eat alone at the bar, or with a group at a table. If you're looking for sushi DO NOT go here! You'll find sashimi but NO rolls!! You can order off the... More

Really unique place, worth a visit. The service was excellent, there is a wide selection of food to choose from and the atmosphere gave off a really good vibe.

Maybe it's because it's located in Gastown or perhaps it's the bigger space relative to the other Guu, but this location is definitely my favourite - both for the food and the ambiance. I had a party here before and they accommodated our group of 10. I think it's best when you have a big group (just plan and make... More

Guu is the only Japanese Izakaya style restaurant that I go to in Vancouver. The prices are good, but you just can't beat the flavours. Dishes that I recommend are the Kimchi Bibimbap, Tuna Tataki, and Maguro with 5 Color sauce. Without a reservation and not going right when it opens you will always have a wait because the place... Guu is like a Japanese tapas bar--and these sort of bars with small dishes are popular in Japan--but unfortunately pretty rare in Canada and the States. So, with a desire for Takoyaki and other wonderful bar foods, we went to Guu--near Canada Place. The food was mostly terrific (a couple dishes were only good) and the bill was quite a... More

We walked in without reservations and were told it would be a 30 minute wait for a table which was fine with us. After about 30 minutes we were seated at the bar and thought about leaving since it's not what we had been expecting, but decided to give the place a try anyway since the food looked so good... Everything was delicious...squid, eel bibimbap, edamame, scallops, all of it. There were so many dishes I wanted to try, but unfortunately I have only one stomach. Great beers, too - the Blanche de Chambly is one of my favorites. Yes, it can get loud. Yes, sometimes the service gets a little scattered because the place can be hectic. Yes, it's... More
