Hearty Vegetarian Food

I prefer vegetarian food whenever I can get it. This place is packed and trendy grunge, complete with young people having a ball. They didn't mind "grannie" dropping in. The food is hearty and substantial. The greens are fresh. My only request is that the dishes could have been spicier. I admit... read more

This is an "average" rating, as the service was possibly the worst I've ever seen at a restaurant but the food was really delicious. First the good: the ambiance in enjoyable here, with a busy hum and it's extra cool to see the kitchen staff working on old conventional ovens, turning out amazing plates. Each meal we saw go by... Some of the best vegetarian food I've had. Played it safe and had pasta but will definitely be back to try some of the other delicious looking dishes.

We were shopping on Main and stopped in for lunch. We were surprised that it wasn't busier, considering that we arrived at 12:00 on a Saturday. We were seated right away and had our choice of tables. It's a funky atmosphere, with kitchenette tables and mismatched chairs. The service was fine. Our order was taken promptly, water was brought and... More

When one thinks of Sunday brunch, I'd assume it consists of filling cholesterol heart attack inducing entrees...greasy bacon and breakfast sausages. Surprisingly, I didn't miss these meat items with the diverse vegetation Foundation menu. I was extremely disappointed that their signature nachos were not offered on their lunch menu. Is it really that difficult to make a plate between 1... More

The food is great, the brockly tofu and the migling yam dip are some of my favorites. (But, really, everything is delish here) Unfortunately, we've stopped going here for dinner because after 5pm (or so) the music goes from decent, standard veggie restaurant fare to hard-core vulgar (f*, n*, b*, f* etc etc - hide your kids, hide your eardrums... Hip, funky, eclectic, and they make a beautiful and delicious veggie burger, so I was quite the happy here!

This corner of Main is a good place to be if you like fresh vegetarian meals. We ordered two different sandwiches and split them. From the blend of ingredients to flavour it's all really very good. Think about veggie bacon for a second...yeah. It's one place to try if you're in Vancouver and decide for yourself if vegetarian diets are... More

Our family of four ate at the Foundation after seeing positive reviews. We were staying in the area, and have a fussy vegan that is hard to please. She pronounced this restaurant to be her favourite. She was happy. We were happy. The nachos are really something. Suggest ordering the "small" option unless you are very hungry.

We were the oldest people in the joint. The food portion was abundant of the regular nachos. We had the regular with corn, beans, salsa, sour cream and gazpacho and chips galore. The other dish was sesame society with veggies, tofu and greens. We could hardly eat it that dish as we were so full from the nachos. Service was... More

Staying in South Main

Neighborhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
