The place is somewhat charming but verging on a dump. Like some of the vibe but not sure it is clean. Food did not impress at all. No care taken n preparation. Had the Marsala dragono bowl..huge pieces of cauliflower and boccoli thrown over rice with some curry sauce. Ate about a quarter of it...not interesting at all

N49°16.096' W123°10.016' an evocative relic of Kitsilano' hippie past, this vegetarian restaurant has a feel of comfy, highly chatty farmhouse. Naam never closes its door, but expect a queue in front during peak times. During your wait outside in August 2015, we studied the many prices Naam received for its food. Our expectations increased. We chose two mains from the... More

Hello Goyourownway, Thank you coming to visit us during your stay in Vancouver last year, and for letting us know about your experience at The NAAM. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our comfortable homey atmosphere but am so sorry that you did not find the two evening specials that you tried to be to your liking. In... More

The Naam is an interesting place that feels like it's right out of the 60's with it's hippie vibe and vintage décor. It's busy but fairly no frills. The menu has lots of options - it's a bit overwhelming at first! We had the Thai Dragon bowl and Buddha's feast, which were good, but not as flavourful as I expected.... More

Hello RP_traveller_2013, I'd like to thank you for visiting us and also for taking the time to write a review of The NAAM. It is great to hear that we are one of the more affordable vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver. Since we opened in 1968, the restaurant has gone through many changes; but throughout, we have worked to maintain the... More

The Naam is an institution, almost 50 years old. Always a "go to" place for affordable vegetarian food any time of the day. As usual, the food always fills me up, and is fresh, homemade and hearty. I don't think the menu has changed in years, but there is always a special or two for a change of pace. This... More

Hello Travellingwhenwecan, Thank you for your review and I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us. I have heard more than once that our portions are so large that our guests don't have room for dessert, but it's so hard to resist the Sesame Fries with (our famous) Miso Gravy. If you do have room on your... More

After a long absence, I thought it'd be fun to return to this landmark, late 60's - early 70's, counterculture Vancouver vegetarian restaurant. One thing I had forgotten was how inconsiderate and slow-as-molasses the service was. Well, a decade later - the food I trust is still very fine, but the quality of service hand't changed. It really was too... More

Hello GlobalPilgrimMax, Thank you for your review. I am happy to hear that you returned to visit us after a decade away but disappointed that you did not get a chance to sample any delicious food. In the course of that decade, we have been working hard to improve service speed and quality, especially during busy periods. We would love... More

The 1960s never disappeared, they live on at Naam. This funky place has an authentic retro vibe, a welcoming appearance and friendly helpful service. The chilli bowl entree came with a big serving of chopped fresh salad and fresh buttered bread, and a very modest price. Everyone in our group of four had plenty of very satisfying food. I can't... Imagine this: it's 11:00 at night, you just left a concert venue. You're hungry because you didn't spend $30 on greasy snack food at the venue. Where can you go to get a hot dinner, fixed with all the trimmings, that's healthy and won't break the bank? Easy. The Naam. They have variety (even your carnivorous friends could find something... We have been stopping in here for the past 25 years whenever we pass through Vancouver. From the excellent strong coffee and their brown flour crust pecan pie to the vegetarian Indian food special, this is an unchanging pillar of a restaurant. Always like stopping home, great food and a comfortable space, the wood stove in the dining room was... More

It's not always easy to find good vegetarian fare in Vancouver, but the Naam makes up for it. Hearty serves of creative and diverse vegetarian/vegan food at good prices. What more could you want. The only negative is the wait at peak times, but you can't blame them for being popular.

Staying in Kitsilano

Neighborhood Profile
Kitsilano
Kitsilano is one of Vancouver's most transformative neighbourhoods. With a long history of coffee culture and poetry readings, its days of flower children and buskers may be long-gone, but not without leaving their mark on the number of organic restaurants and fair-trade cafes in the area. At the centre of Kitsilano ("Kits" for short) the almost idyllic expanse of Kits Beach offers the opportunity for a relaxed afternoon of beach volleyball or sunbathing. Along with the beachfront, nearby public pools and trendy street-beats have driven up the homeowners prices, making it a haven for stylish home goods stores, from design and furniture, to supplies and appliances. The multitude of both families and public spaces also make it a happening neighbourhood in the summer, when festivals and fairs take to Kits' streets.
