We walked in with no reservation and no expectations. We had good, friendly and professional service and I loved the wood oven pizzas. Pasta was good too. It was reasonable priced and it was a cozy and busy restaurant under ground. I would definitely go back! This was real Italian food.

We basically stumbled onto Al Porto while wandering around the Gastown area. The sign outside promoted the restaurant as an authentic Italian Tratoria. Just what my family of 6 was looking for. It turned out to be a perfect choice on multiple levels. First, the food overall was very tasty, and everyone liked their choices very much. Big kudos especially... More

Came back from a cruise and we decided we needed a really good place to eat after eating boat food for a week. We decided on Al Porto - and we were all glad we did. I started with the Calamari which was perfectly done, and not over-cooked as most restaurants do. The combination of the red onion brushetta and... More

The concierge in our hotel recommended Al Porto for an early evening family dinner and we enjoyed it. Nice location in the Gastown area, so a pleasant walk from the hotel. The restaurant has an underground / cellar feel to it. Efficient service, which we expected as the restaurant was not full. Good food / drink - the seafood risotto... More

We were back in Vancouver for a short trip and decided to revisit Al Porto. Having been there several years ago, we had great memories and we were not disappointed this time either. A fixture in Gas Town, Al Porto is a large comfortable restaurant. My husband and I both had Caesar salads to start and pasta. His with chicken... More

I ate here twice with my family on my visit in Vancouver. Both times we had very good food and the early bird special (coming for dinner before 6:30) is a great deal too. Very generous pours of wine. Good service and nice cellar ambiance, albeit with some pretty bad artwork on the walls. After dinner one can enjoy a... More

The entrance is just down a side turning, and down several steps, the decoration is very italian The menu offers plenty of choice and if you are an early eater there are good deals Very attentive service We enjoyed the salads, pasta and pizza and especially chocolate desert and lemon tart

A bit difficult to find but worth the search: good sized menu, good wines, extremely good value set lunches, excellent service often with a Monty Python twist.

With a group that loves Italian food we could not go wrong here. We had a wonderful waiter who had patience as he explained the menu in depth to us all. Pasta, pizza, steak and seafood were all sampled and the entire group loved their meal. I would recommend a dinner here if you are in the gas district -... More

My husband and I decided to try Al Porto in Gastown on the weekend. It is in a scenic spot in historic Gastown within walking distance of the cruise ship facility. I was surprised to see how large it was inside with a second floor for overflow and private rooms for large groups. The waiter was not too attentive, it... More
