A bit difficult to find but worth the search: good sized menu, good wines, extremely good value set lunches, excellent service often with a Monty Python twist.

With a group that loves Italian food we could not go wrong here. We had a wonderful waiter who had patience as he explained the menu in depth to us all. Pasta, pizza, steak and seafood were all sampled and the entire group loved their meal. I would recommend a dinner here if you are in the gas district -... More

My husband and I decided to try Al Porto in Gastown on the weekend. It is in a scenic spot in historic Gastown within walking distance of the cruise ship facility. I was surprised to see how large it was inside with a second floor for overflow and private rooms for large groups. The waiter was not too attentive, it... More

My favorite place for a nice Italian lunch in Gastown; I meet my daughter here every other week. It is usually pretty busy but we have always been seated right away. We love the ambience and thoughtful, well-dressed servers. We generally order the presto lunch for under $15 which is soup or salad and a pasta or risotto dish. Everything... More

One would think that being in Gastown and walking distance from the cruise terminal, that this would be a tourist trap of marginal quality. Nothing could be further from the truth. Although the atmosphere is somewhat kitschy in the decor, the surroundings tend to give the restaurant a somewhat lighthearted ambiance. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating and... More

Located in the heart of old Gas Town in Vancouver, this is a great Italian restaurant. Situated down an alley, then downstairs into the old building cellar, there are waterfront harbour views on the north side of the restaurant. They offer an extensive menu and a good range of wines in a very convivial setting with excellent service at very... More

We happened on this restaurant on a Saturday night after getting off a cruise ship. The restaurant was lovely, the waitress the best and the food exquisite! We would recommend it highly.

Tucked in Gastown, Al Porto provided a quick (less than 45 minutes) and delicious lunch. A reprieve from the ubiquitous food courts, white linen, fresh bread, olive oil and balsamic set the mood. Each of us ordered a different dish which was served hot and delicious and each under $15.00.

Given that this restaurant is located in a tourist area I was surprised at how good the food was. The emphasis is on Northern Italian dishes although some standards are available. The food was well prepared and tasted fine. The service was excellent.. The desserts were ordinary. The wine list was good. It is a bit pricey but you have... More

My wife and I picked this restaurant more or less at random whilst walking through Gas Town when we saw the menu on the street. We then had a bit of difficulty finding the actual entrance to the restaurant (it's down a side alley) indeed, a party in front of us gave up looking for it and went elsewhere. Their... More
