Gastown's popular Water Street is alive with the taste of another era. Meander down the cobbled sidewalk and stumble across a true find, the uniquely situated Al Porto Ristorante. Spacious yet cozy, the room is as distinct as the cuisine that defines the rich flavour and culture of Italy. Candlelight and a warm welcome await you as you cross through the iron-gate.

Worth Trying - Great food

Very nice for a casual or semi casual sit down meal or drinks. Good atmosphere. Really enjoyed it when we went and the view was also very nice. Greater wait staff.

We dined here early evening. We were informed about the discount on various items on the menu in the early evening. We had two courses rather than one, thus we had a soup course at a reduced price. We had a fish and a veal main course, both excellent. I left my camera at the restaurant. I managed to locate... More

Visitor or local, you will enjoy Al Porto's menu, ambience and value. Given its location in historic gastown and close to the cruise ship terminal, Al Porto attracts many tourists. As locals, my partner and I have been going to Al Porto for many years and we recommend it wholeheartedly. They have a great dinner special if you get there... More

Cute place, nice people, food just so-so! This Gastown restaurant is very reminiscent of a true restaurant in Italy. Very reasonably priced and family friendly. Staff was extremely accommodating and personable. Just wish the food matched up. My husbands veal piccata was good but my spaghetti pommodore was disappointing. The sauce had been sitting a long time and was far... More

I had lunch here with six work colleagues on August 13. We love this Italian restaurant because the food is usually good and reasonably priced. Their express lunch option includes a small soup of the day, small Caesar salad and a choice of pasta or risotto for $12.95. Can't beat the price! Although we have been impressed with the service... Used a Groupon to check out this restaurant. Service was commendable and food was above average although slightly pricey. Yes it is in Gastown, but does not have the view that it promises you. all the windows looking out towards the mountains have their lower halves glazed

My wife and I were in Vancouver for a few days, and decided we wanted pizza. Walking through Gastown I saw the sign of Al Porto just a few steps off Water Street. So we gave it a shot. We ordered one pizza, and one portion of spaghetti and meatballs. Excellent food. Not necessarily cheap, but nothing seems cheap in... More

The whole 10 feet this restaurant is, off of Water St, makes it a quiet refuge from a tourist bustle. We stumbled in almost by accident and were so happy we did. We had the mushroom balls (forgot the name) for an appetizer, and they were really great. They came in a marinara sauce that wasn't too heavy. We had... More

I had completely forgotten about Al Porto (a longstanding Gastown dining spot) when a friend suggested that we (a group of five friends) dine there. We were lamenting the recent closure of a tapas bar we had gathered at for many years, and were at a bit of a loss as to where to meet for our annual dinner. On... More
