Gastown's popular Water Street is alive with the taste of another era. Meander down the cobbled sidewalk and stumble across a true find, the uniquely situated Al Porto Ristorante. Spacious yet cozy, the room is as distinct as the cuisine that defines the rich flavour and culture of Italy. Candlelight and a warm welcome await you as you cross through the iron-gate.

Nice place in Gastown

After I made my reservation, I saw some nasty reviews about this restaurant, but because those were the minority, I kept my reservation. And did not regret. Nothing bad happened there, the service was very good, and also the food.

We decided to try Al Porto during the Dining in Vancouver festival this month (Jan 2016). Looking at the Website, this restaurant came up in the $20 fixed price menu, so we decided to not go to one of favorites in Vancouver ($40 Price Fix for 4 courses), and would try this restaurant as we were nearby. The entryway is... More

My Wife and I went to Al Porto under the Dine Out Vancouver promotion. It had been many years since I last ate there so I was looking forward to it and I am pleased to say it did not disappoint. All the items that we chose are taken from the regular menu which gave us a good feel for... More

NYE Dec31st 2015 We'd just flown in from Sydney that afternoon & had'nt made any NYE plans except to hopefully stay awake long enough to see in the New Year with the midnight fireworks. Walking through Gastown around 9pm, we came across Al Porto restaurant which appeared to have tables overlooking the harbour & a bit of a queue of... More

A welcome find during a miserable evening. Excellent welcome and service, extensive wine list and perfect homemade pasta.

I have walked by this restaurant thousands of time heading for inexpensive places to eat. But yesterday I decided to splurge . Actually they have a prix fixe lunch is wonderful value. It is a lovely restaurant and I was delighted.

Fresh food, lots of choices, fast attentive service. I had the lunch special which included soup and salad served on the same plate and a seafood risotto that was cooked perfectly. The shrimp, mussels and clams were excellent. Will definitely make a point of stopping by again.

We chose this restaurant on the recommendation of the concierge in our hotel. We wanted Italian food within walking distance. It was an excellent recommendation. The restaurant is quite large so we did not have to wait for a table. It could be different in the summer and might we worth calling ahead. I had the mushroom risotto and my... More

Went for a date night with my girlfriend. We had the groupon deal which negates the early dinner special. She had the gnocci pasta and it was delicious. I had the lamb chops which were just mediocre but the sides were delicious. Sangria was really good as well. Service was very friendly and did not rush us at all. Overall... More

Everytime I am in Gastown I stop by at this restaurant for either lunch or dinner. I love their wild mushroom risotto and this dish is part of their presto lunch offering. Super quick, tasty and a tremendeous value. The servise is always top notch.

Staying in Gastown

Neighborhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
