Decided to try Italian. Great menu with a wide variety of interesting dishes-not just pasta. Which the had, and pizza if you wanted it. Extensive wine list and the waiter made great suggestions. Well worth a leisurely dinner with date, spouse, or friends. There were families there with younger children; the menu and restaurant appeared suitable for them, too.

Be sure to have Peter as your waiter. The Veal Lasagna is rich, tasty, and full of delicious flavors. Soups & salads you can't miss with either. Enjoy the old world atmosphere and great service.

This place is owned by a well known Italian restauranteur in Vancouver. We were out walking in Gastown and came upon it and decided to give it a try. It is a very very busy establishment and as we were early for dinner we got a table but I think this is a place you really need to reserve. It... More

Many cruise ship travellers end up in Gastown when visiting Vancouver. It can seem a bit rough to the uninitiated but Al Porto Ristorante is a quiet enclave just off the "madding" path. Do consider giving it a try. The food is delicious and beautifully presented.

I had the lunch special. About $15 US for appetizer, drink and entree. I thought the food was good. The sign outside said there was a harbor view, and the view was blocked by trains and other vessels when I was there. The service was just okay. My server was very nice, but the others were so-so. I was there... More

We only had the seafood (halibut & skewers) and it was excellent. Cooked just right, very tasty butter sauce, vegetables not overdone, polenta was great. The risotto was good but not the best I've had - more like a cross between rice and risotto - not as creamy and sticky as it should be - but then that is hard... More

We went in quite early as we had been sightseeing all day. Had noticed the restaurant the day before and it looked inviting. Service was excellent, very helpful waiter who gave recommendations. We shared some dishes which were more than adequate and certainly very tasty. Would go back again.

Haven't been for years so decided a return visit was in order. Reservation, decor the same, nice table layout (no long bench seating - yeh!), seated promptly, waiter a bit too aggressive. Ordered a bottle of red wine (3x the BC Liquor store price- too much). Ordered the Ceasar salad - excellent, the Minestrone soup - really mediocre. Mains were... More

We have just completed 10 days in Vancouver, a holiday with a simple "rule" which is we eat somewhere different each night, and go back to the best on the last night for a farewell meal. This was the best! And genuinely recommended. The problem is it is down a side passageway, and undersells itself outside, many may be deterred... More

Bought a Groupon to try the restaurant all I can say was a mistake. This restaurant had such bland food and no Italian taste to the food at all. No wonder they keep putting Groupons. And was empty on a Friday night when Gastown is full of people.
