Vancouver Landmark for decades but it was no longer special

Tojo's was an institution in the Vancouver restaurant scene for decades but I must say there were more wrong things than right when we visited. The space was sterile and cold, the lighting was harsh even blinding, the ceiling too high - it was like eating in a super-bright huge warehouse. We were... read more

We had most excellent sushi here, everything seemed so fresh. The interiors of the restaurant was also very nice. The service was excellent. They serve Genmaicha green tea (spelling?) which is the first I has ever had it. Luckily, just up the street is a lovely tea boutique where I could buy a bag to take home. If you like... More

We ordered the 5 course Omakase menu. There were 3 of us so we sat in a booth, otherwise it probably would have been nicer to sit at the bar as clearly Tojo and his staff were very interactive with patrons. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We had three different servers throughout the evening and the... More

We started going to this gem of a restaurant 25 years ago when we were students at UBC celebrating a special occasion. Now living elsewhere, we chose to come back two years in a row on their busiest day (Valentine's) and were again amazed both times. For your first time, I would recommend going another time other than Valentine's Day,... More

Although more expensive than one might spend for a weeknight dinner -- $280 for two people including tip and 1.5 bottles of wine -- the quality of the food, the service and atmosphere at Tojo's were all excellent. I would definitely go again.

We were a party of 2 at the restaurant. The server strongly recommended the 5 course Omakase, which was decent, but the food quality was average and certainly not worth the price.

This was a return visit to Tojo's, the service was excellent but the food, was not up to par. The sushi was good, but Tojo's chicken was very poor, the tempura was fine but not great. The overall experience considering how expensive it is does not justify going to this restaurant. They are a lot of better Japanese restaurants in... More

Interesting sushi rolls. They were good and tasty but not sure I would take the taxi again from downtown just for this. Option to sit at the bar for your personal sushi chef with Tojo but it would $150 which we did not do. I liked the sushi but with so many great sushi places in Vancouver, I'm not sure... More

This was hands down some of the best Japanese I've ever had. I think the prices will limit me to only visiting once an a while because it's quite expensive, but everything was amazing

My husband and I visited Vancouver for a Canucks game this past weekend and a friend highly recommended this restaurant...claiming that it was the best sushi on the west coast. We arrived around 5:15 pm before the game ready to feast on fresh sushi. Upon reviewing the menu, I noticed that the prices were much higher than I am normally... More
