Good place but don't come often

Was here 4 times in my life. Never severely disappointed but never satisfied. If the price would be cut in half I would come here more often but the quality should not take a hit. Staff are friendly and ambience is nice but... you pay for seafood that's too high and their lease...

We chose the 5 course pre-set option allowing a taste test of many delicious options accompanied by chilled sake. The waitress was very sweet giving a descriptive account of each plate. She was very attentive throughout the meal, and then forgot about us immediately after dessert was served. We started off with what I thought was the best and my... More

This was such a disappointment. My wife and I live in Hong Kong where prices for Japanese restaurants are sky high, and yet, Tojo was still capable of surprising us with their overpriced omakase. We do not mind paying top dollar for quality food, but this was mediocre at best. Sashimi was ice cold. Tempura was oily and inconsistent. We... More

I live in Vancouver which just happens to be a foodie friendly city! I had been looking forward to dining at Tojo's for many years & somehow years have passed before i finally committed to spending big $$ in this restaurant. We decided to have the $80 five course Omakase menu where the chef chooses the best dishes of the... More

What a shame. This was once a world class sushi restaurant, if not a standard set for any other Japanese restaurant in Vancouver. Now? Well lets just say that if I wanted b-grade, pre-made, pre-rolled sushi I would buy a $10 bento box at the mall, not spend $200 per person on an Omakase sitting. For half the time, Tojo... More

Certainly not the cheapest restaurant in town, but the food was fantastic. Probably some of the best Japanese food I have ever eaten and that includes many places in Japan. The chef / owner actually invented the California roll here so it's also good talking point. Definitely recommend as long as your willing to paid the price.

Tojo's is just another Japanese restaurant with precious little to distinguish it other than the perennial line up at the door. Canadians love to line up because they somehow think it is or should be part of the experience, kind of like "working for it"; makes them worthy of the reward and totally guiltless of the sensual pleasures it provides.... We visited Tojo's as part of our long quest for the best sushi in Canada. Needless to say... we've eaten a lot of sushi (including Tokyo) This is an elegant high end restaurant, so be prepared to pay the steep entry price. This beautiful celebration of highly experienced skill, it is an art. If budget is a concern save Tojo's... More

Had the tasting menu. Tried o toro bluefin tune. It was exquisite, best ever tried. We were three adults and paid 800 canadian dollars. Would deifantely recommend this experience if one can afford it.

Went to Tojo's after hearing great things for years about it and was sooooo very disappointed. They didn't have the 3 items we wanted from the hot dishes and the 3 rolls we ordered were sloppy and boring. Would never go back nor recommend this restaurant to anyone. Not worth even 1/4 of what we paid. Don't bother.

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighborhood Profile
Shaughnessy
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
