Magnafique...the food and the service and the family owners

We have never been disappointed at La Cigale. The food is top shelf. The ingredients, presentation, and portions are just amazing and bountiful. This visit we had the duck confit and the sea bass special with a leek mimosa salad. The dessert was blood orange mousse with a praline crust and was just... read more

French country cuisine. The pepper steaks are the best in town. Pricey: $100 for 2 steaks, half a carafe of wine, bread. No starters, desert or vegetables. But on no-corkage-fee-Tuesday's you can bring in your own bottle. The restaurant is packed most weekday nights, reservations are required. But the chairs are small for the over 40 crowd, seats are uncomfortable,... More

Once again La Cigale was a wonderful experience. The value for your money is great. The specials of the day were very flavourful and amazing. This place never fails to amaze us.

We went to La Cigale for Valentine’s dinner. It was a while since we had been last and they did not have a set menu which we tend to avoid. The restaurant was packed but we were seated immediately and managed to get a window seat. Service was excellent throughout the meal and the food was delicious. We started with... More

One of my friends is a restaurant's nightmare. The range and complexities of his allergies challenges the most inventive of chefs. We knew we were somewhere special when the chef pulled up a chair and patiently talked his way through the mine field that is my friend's digestive tract in order to custom design his main course. The hostess and... More

Parisien-born Brigitte runs this authentic French bistro with her son, the Chef on 4th Avenue in the heart of Kitsilano. the blackboard boasts authentic Faye including French onion soup, pates, modules frites. I recommend the Lamb shank served with cous cous for a hearty meal. Do not miss the creme brûlée which can easily be shared between 2 or even... More

We went on a Groupon and were immediately seated at the table assigned to us. Service was good and we enjoyed the French waiter who was funny and helpful. Excellent food -- escargots, lamb shank (huge!) and marvellous mousse dessert. It is noisy, so don't expect any deep conversation with tablemates. Note: there is underground parking just down the block... More

When we need a taste of France we turn to La Cigale and yesterday was one of those days. Madame and her staff create the perfect setting from the classic baguette to the lemon tart. The food is of the best quality and the flavours more than satisfy the foodie in all of us. Yesterday the Petits Pois soup was... More

My girlfriend and I decided to try a different restaurant in town for Valentine's Day. We picked La Cigale French Bistro as we both like French Cusine and are we ever glad we did. We arrived to a friendly greeting at the front door and were seated right away as we had a reservation. The restaurant was pretty full when... More

Pleasantly surprised! One of the best french restaurants in town! Every dish we tried was delicious and authentically french. Dare to say even better than some of the french bistros that we tried while travelling in France. A must to start off with the garlicky escargots, the flaky onion, cheese and arugula tart and the cheesy french onion soup. Each... More
