Get the Diplomat cake!

Recently picked up a small diplomat cake, it is very rich with layers of butter cream and crunchy pastry and a layer of cake. You can get 4 - 6 slices out of it. Also tried 3 small individual cakes plus a round pastry. The cake slice with the walnut on top was moist, sweet but the chocolate slice... read more

We were planning to enjoy our evening meal at Deacon's Corner and simply couldn't resist the urge to pass by the Bon Ton for their world famous Diplomat cake. For the benefit of the uninitiated Notte's Bon Ton cake is to die for.

The desserts at this bakery are average for a bakery. We had a cheese cake and their signature Diplomat cake. Both were fine, but I was hoping for something great.

While the service could be improved some of the pastries are very good and other average. My favorite so far is a chocolate pastry that looks like a small mountain. I had the Diplomat cake, and while many love it I thought it was OK - perhaps because I am a chocolate lover.

Everything at the Bon Ton is to die for. Our favourite is the Religious cake, which is many layers of delicate waver-thin pastry, light cake, butter cream and I don't know what all, but it is absolutely gorgeous and delicious. The single pastry version is called the Jealousy. The windows are lined with rows of gorgeous French pastries and it's... More

Every generation of our family since early 1950's has come here for special occasion cakes. The Diplomat cake has to be one of my favorite. When I die bury me with one. A go to and always count on place.

Probably the best bakery this side of Vienna. The decor hasn't changed for 40 yrs (even though they moved). The tea shop in the back is still steeped in tradition. Tea is served in China cups and a domed pedestal stand of little cakes and pastries is placed in the centre of the table. Genteel. You can also have a... More

The service, the service the service! I've not seen anything like it. The elder gal that works behind the counter was so rude to 2 customers that they walked out. Any questions I asked about the petit cakes was responded to sharply. I had heard from a friend of mine that the service could be compared to the soup nazi!.... More

I would agree with many of the other posters. My wife actually worked here 35 years ago. It is sad to hear how it has changed over the years. We got some tasty desserts here, but the service was not great. The lady working there seemed put out when we asked what were in the various pastries. I might have... More

Staying in Kitsilano

Neighborhood Profile
Kitsilano
Kitsilano is one of Vancouver's most transformative neighbourhoods. With a long history of coffee culture and poetry readings, its days of flower children and buskers may be long-gone, but not without leaving their mark on the number of organic restaurants and fair-trade cafes in the area. At the centre of Kitsilano ("Kits" for short) the almost idyllic expanse of Kits Beach offers the opportunity for a relaxed afternoon of beach volleyball or sunbathing. Along with the beachfront, nearby public pools and trendy street-beats have driven up the homeowners prices, making it a haven for stylish home goods stores, from design and furniture, to supplies and appliances. The multitude of both families and public spaces also make it a happening neighbourhood in the summer, when festivals and fairs take to Kits' streets.
