I was the only one of our party of six who had previously eaten Ethiopian cuisine, so we asked Kidist to suggest a meal. It was outstanding. The goat stew, cabbage, lentils, etc. were all delicious, and the variety was nice. We also ordered Kitfo, which I would highly recommend.

We stumbled upon this restaurant as it was a short walk from our hotel. We were a large multi-generational group, only one of whom had experience with Ethiopian food. We invited Kidist to feed us her best, and she did not disappoint. Personally, I would not have ordered "goat stew", and it turned out to be my favourite. The variety... More

Well, we traveled the 1 1/2 hours up to Vancouver today. Took friends that had never tried Ethiopian before and we were excited to take them to Cafe d'Afrique. We knew the restaurant opened at 11:30, so we arrived just at noon. CLOSED! We waited around for a few minutes and then headed to Commercial Drive. We knew another good... More

The cafe has nice simple atmosphere when you walk in. We were attended to reasonably well and received our drinks quickly. But after we placed our food order it took 35 minuttes for thte food to arrive. It wasn't really busy. There were only two other couples in the restaurant. Once the foor arrived it was wonderful and almost worth... More

We went here today for the first time because our old stand by was closed. Much to our surprise it was just as good if not better!! We met the lovely chef & owner Kidist. We tried nearly all the veggie dishes and the chicken. What a great meal! The restaurant was very clean and had a homey atmosphere. We... More

I love Ethiopian food, but getting authentic injerra (the flat bread) w/ the delicious stews is always a problem - this little restaurant had authentic, delicious, homemade injerra. It was wonderful - it is the best Ethiopian I have had since leaving Ethiopia in 1975 after a 9 month stint as a missionary. I ate at the Cafe D'Afrique two weeks... More

Coconut curry chicken was the lunch special - and it was so wonderful. Layered spices and exciting tastes throughout the rice, veg and fresh coconut, smothering a large chunk of leg. This was so beautiful I hesitated to start eating it. The cool spiced lentil salad was intensely satisfying, and the potato beet salad was a standout. My partner had... More

We had heard of this little gem but hadn't stopped in until recently. Wish I had gone way sooner now. It's a small off the beaten path kind of place, but the food is unreal and they even took the time to explain and share some of thier spices with us, a definite recommend.

I just came back from dinner with my husband and felt compelled to write a fabulous review for this resteraunt immediatley. The atmosphere is very humble, but the food is a crazy amazing party in your mouth. We ordered the beef stew and vegeterian stew - served traditional style and shared that. It comes beautifully served on a large pan... More
