you know what, i don't care if this is a small shop, i don't care it is not fine dining. i just love the simple and quick dish. the beef on rice, in the simplest form, it's fast, cheap and nice. go get a miso soup and small salad with the beef bowl, that's all you need. great place for... More

Situated on the same row as Japadog. The beef on rice is the main attraction and very filling and tasty. Staffed by Japanese, service was fast and efficient. The dishes arrived quickly enough. Seating can be a bit cramped in this restaurant, with two counters and only 3 small tables but most people just eat and go so turnover is... More

After having a Japadog next door, we were still hungry and walked into Gyu Don Ya Japanese Restaurant for something a little more filling. We three each had a bowl (beef, salmon and mabo tofu). All the bowls came with miso soup and a choice of "salad" which was pickles or kim chi. The service was quick and friendly. The... More

It was a very good quick meal with decent amount of flavor. I had regular grilled chicken bowl, which was more than satisfying.

Ordered the short ribs on rice. Meat was tasty. Served with some lettuce and green onions over rice. Bone was taken out of the short rib which I enjoyed. Wish there were more vegetables but great nonetheless.

I tried this small cafe just to try something different. Prices are reasonable and the service is quick (think Japanese fast food). The menu is small but interesting, specialising in a variety of rice bowls. The problem is the food is not all that flavourful, and there is not a lot of meat in the dish. There are better options... On a rainy day in VanCity, this place always hits the spot. The beef bowls are very good here and the staff is very friendly. There may be some language issues from time to time, but everything is simple and very tasty. If you are on a budget, or otherwise just want to keep expenses down and have a good... More

If you're a budget traveler, this is one of many selections on the block with good prices. We tried the bimbim, and I would say it was average taste-wise and relatively filling. But for the price, it was a good value--not a huge amount of meat in the dish. The wait staff are very friendly and efficient.

Perfect on a cold, rainy day. Beef bowls were exactly what they are supposed to be. As good as we've had in Japan. Not really cheap, but good value.

Pretty unpretentious restaurant with I think a total of 9 things on the menu - 8 kinds of donburi and one kind of ramen. In spite of the restaurant's name I went with the ramen which was tasty and nicely spicy (you can also order it non-spicy). Good food and quite inexpensive. It's all counter seating - no tables.
