Best sushi in the city without a doubt. Ask the waitress for her recommendations and prepare to get your mind blown. Lotus root = unreal.

Organic produce, well organized menu. Ocean-wise. Delicious green tea Ice cream! Cozy atmosphere. Authentic Japanese food! Lovely staff. Wish they had more tables for bigger parties!

This is not your normal sushi. The sushi at Shizen Ya is "healthy" sushi because they use brown rice instead of normal sushi rice. Nevertheless, the sushi was very tasty and fresh. The sakura blossom roll with sockeye salmon was beautiful and delectable. The restaurant is small, so expect to have to wait for a table. I would not go... More

Well prepared and reasonably priced for a downtown location. Not much atmosphere but the food makes up for it. Great selection for both fish eaters and vegans (like me!)

I spent my last lunch in Vancouver at this quaint Japanese restaurant. We were hungry from an earlier hike at Grouse Grind. I ordered the Triple Attack Bowl, which had wild sockeye salmon sashimi, albacore tuna sashimi, and seaweed served over organic brown sushi rice. Coupled with an order of yam tempura, the meal did not disappoint. Overall, the service... More

Loved the salmon salad and the spicy tuna roll with avocado. The teriyaki beef was too overcooked and the chicken breast was dry. Just stick to the rolls.

Waited for almost an hour for a table that never materialized. Staff were completely unconcerned and were never forthcoming that they had no availability, even though that it was known that we were watiing for a table for a party of three.

Shi-zen-ya is a healthier sushi place that uses brown rice. I eat brown rice on a pretty regular basis but I just was not a huge fan of the food. It was just very…blah to me. He had a Dragon roll, Dynamite roll, and this food called Gommae which I did enjoy. Yelp told us to get sesame ice cream... More

A pleasant place for lunch. Friendly staff and a varied and interesting menu. Prices are fair for the cuisine and the area. First time I have tried sushi made with brown rice and although I am sure it is much healthier, I still prefer the classical approach personally. It was certainly not unpleasant though. Worth a visit if you are... More
