Waited for almost an hour for a table that never materialized. Staff were completely unconcerned and were never forthcoming that they had no availability, even though that it was known that we were watiing for a table for a party of three.

Shi-zen-ya is a healthier sushi place that uses brown rice. I eat brown rice on a pretty regular basis but I just was not a huge fan of the food. It was just very…blah to me. He had a Dragon roll, Dynamite roll, and this food called Gommae which I did enjoy. Yelp told us to get sesame ice cream... More

A pleasant place for lunch. Friendly staff and a varied and interesting menu. Prices are fair for the cuisine and the area. First time I have tried sushi made with brown rice and although I am sure it is much healthier, I still prefer the classical approach personally. It was certainly not unpleasant though. Worth a visit if you are... More

The place is very small, 7 doubles and one table if 4/5. We were five and had to wait 15 minutes for a table but it was worth while. The sashimi was absolutely great. You could felt the freshness. The roles and everything were very good as well. At the restaurant they only use brown rise, so for those who... More

Stopped by for a quick lunch and once again enjoyed it. Fresh and tasty. Great prices for top notch food. I see why they rate high on trip advisor.

HIGHLY recommended! This little gem was only 5 minutes' walk from our condo. It is very easy to miss, as it is a very small, narrow place with limited seating. It is not some fancy sushi bar where fancy people go to sip sake and talk of hedge funds. It is just good food, pure and simple. The menu is... More

This is a true hole-in-the-wall on Hornby near Nelson -- I doubt they can handle 20 sit-down customers -- and we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated toward the end of lunch hour. We only learned about it through the recommendation of a friend who lived in Vancouver. But the sushi and other Japanese food was simply terrific,... More

I spent over a week around this area and tried several restaurants. This is one of the best ones I ever tried in my life. Everything is organic and the fish tastes like heaven. We were five people we got several rolls (all amazing), a chirashi (small but incredible), and some sashimi (really good). A friend of mine also had... More

Great food with very subtle changes to make things a bit more healthy. If you've never had maki rolls made with brown rice then you might notice it more but I am quite happy to make that substitution. All the food I had was great. Sashimi wasn't the premium grade that you might get elsewhere but I was happy to... More

We found this place by chance, when looking for a sushi take out. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised. Now all other sushi places seem blah compared to this one. Their menu is not extensive as a lot of other sushi places, but the quality is absolutely top notch! I love the rolls with brown rice and organic ingredients.... More
