Panino Perfetto!

Yes, all the panini here are perfect! When shopping on Commercial Drive on Saturdays, make sure you come here to La Grotta to buy your cheese around lunchtime and get a panino for lunch along with their great cheese. One of Vancouver's first and best cheese shops + the first selling panini too. Now... read more

I asked if there was any place to sit. The man behind the counter pointed to a few sad and small tables and chairs squished against the store front window outside. It was raining heavily and so that was not an option. " No, really; isn't there somewhere I can eat inside?". " No, but you can buy a sandwich... More

I agree with all of the other reviewers about the sandwiches being exceptional. Made to order with a varied selection of the best ingredients. I always get mine grilled. They also have a great selection of cheeses, deli meats and fine Italian products. Those who try it once soon become regulars.

This deli is amazing. When you arrive you will see by how busy they are and how many locals frequent here that this is a hidden gem. The paninis here are made to order with great ingredients and are very delicious. Anytime I'm nearby I drop in to get a superb sandwich.

It's been a long time since I was "in the neighborhood" on Commercial Drive and Second Avenue; however I had the good luck of being there yesterday and I jumped on the chance to get some heavenly La Grotta Del Formaggio sandwiches - bringing them back to the North Shore about an hour trip on the bus from the deli.... I love walking into this narrow Italian cheese shop pausing to look if they have any Venezualan Beaver cheese in the cheese counter. Unlikely, but they do have cheese and they will make you a wonderful sandwich. I always choose a round foccacia (and a whole one is a meal for two). You have a choice of meats and they... More

La Grotta Del Formaggio is a little deli (no seating area though) to order a custom made sandwich, that easily could be both a lunch and dinner...made with the finest Italian ingredients I can ever remember seeing in the same place. The staff was friendly, purposeful and competent. They also offer a wide selection of Italian food fixin's. The sandwich... More

To be honest I don't really pay that much attention to the other food offerings but the made to order sandwiches are incredible. Most recently I had a few made up in advance for a big celebration (along with sushi, made to order catered food, etc.). Well the sandwiches from La Grotta were a big hit! We grilled them at... When in Vancouver it is a must trip for all my Italian cooking needs and while I'm there a sandwich is a must! The owner is always friendly, going back to the World Cup when Italy won and I gave a Italia Champions Flag and got back two Italia t-shirts. Great products, great people, great owners makes a great shopping... More

Without a doubt, my favourite sandwich in Vancouver. We make it a stop at least once a week. La Grotta is primarily a cheese shop, it sells an incredible selection of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and Italian staples. It also makes the most incredible panini sandwich. The perfect balance of meat, cheese, olives, marinated eggplant, and a generous drenching of olive... More
