FOOD: Excellent , loved the Pakistani food, they also some unique items I don't see in other Indian restaurants, like Cow Brain masala and Paya(Goat's foot soup). Very nice for the price. SERVICE; Excellent friendly service, the cook is very friendly and hilarious. ATMOSPHERE: Basic but OK. Hole in the wall feel. OVERALL: Excellent Pakistani restaurant. Loved it. Highly recomended.

It was my first trip to Vancouver and I was craving South Asian food. My friend and I found Al-Watan on the web and decided to try it out. We were very pleasantly surprised! Not only was the food delicious but the service was wonderful as well! We loved it so much that we went back the next day for... More

When cooking at home I make use of South Asian cuisines more than any other. And yet I continue to be disappointed by the low quality of Vancouver South Asian restaurants. I've been going to Al Watan now for a few years - probably 4 to 5 times per year. The food never ceases to satisfy me. Time after time, Khalid (the owner) will come out and check in with the diners to make sure everything is ok. The restaurant is small, probably not somewhere you want to go for formal... More

OK, it has zero ambience - it's a hole in the wall. But sometimes it's worth being adventurous. The staff are welcoming and the food is surprisingly good and inexpensive by Vancouver standards. Tandoori chicken and naan are delicious even if the spice level is kicked up a notch. Feel free to eschew the cutlery as you go native.

There are lots of Indian restaurants in Vancouver, but not too many Pakistani places. This is one of them. The food is good and full of flavor. The naan's are tandoori made and frankly are among the best in the city. Get the chicken tikka karahi which is a curry dish made with pieces of chicken tikka instead of just... More
