Well worth the cab fare

After a beautiful ferry ride, we checked into our hotel, grabbed a cab and went. Good thing website advised of reservations - this tiny (30 seats, including bar) restaurant with window into the kitchen was filling up. One of the best restaurants in Nanaimo for quality of food! Pay attention to the times as you might not be able to dine as leisurely as you like. Great multiple course meals which have fantastic wine pairings. Do reserve, the interior is quite small but very charming.

The menu was very limited and with that I expected perfection in the meal and the service. The steak was tasty and properly cooked, the salad was fresh but plain. Would have personally preferred a choice of potato rather than fries. I would have preferred much less salt on my food as I normally use none, so found it quite... More

Ryan and his team do an outstanding job - every time. There is no question that the Hilltop Bistro is Nanaimo's best fine dining restaurant. The best part about this place is how casual it is while delivering excellent food made with locally sourced ingredients created by a classically trained chef. Can't fall out of love with the Hilltop.

Nice decor, friendly, prompt service, wonderful tasting food and presentation but limited menu, we had the 3 course special with wine paring. I would go again just for the food. $$$$ but ok for a special occasion

The restaurant is not very big and the atmosphere is very cosy. It can become loud when it is full with every table close by. The food was unbelievable good. From the bread, starters, main course and the cognac infused dessert. The wine selection was also great. Do not go expecting a cheap dinner, it is worth the cost. One... More

Great French style Canadian food, very innovative chef. Romantic setting in a log cabin style building. The reviews are right!

From the knowedgeable staff to the creative menu and the quality product, this is a wonderful bistro for discerning tastes. We have yet to be disappointed in a meal here, and we look forward to the constantly changing fish of the day. Everything is fresh, seasonal and the chef obviously takes pride in what he prepares and serves to his... More

This was our 2nd visit to this highly recommended restaurant. The room is fairly small but doesn't feel cramped. The decor is westcoast elegant and the waiting staff are extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We all had the 3 course set menu and everyone oohed and aahed when presented with each dish. All in all fabulous value for a delicious meal.
