We ate here for the first time this week. We found the takeout by using the "nearby" search on UrbanSpoon. Very glad we took a chance. The service at the counter was first rate. The patio area was clean and bright. We both had a single piece halibut and chips. Being from England I was thrilled to have my meal... More

Finding a consistantly good fish & chip restaurant in Nanaimo (or surrounding area) has been a challenge at best. Old City Take Out uses FRESH (not frozen) fish, homemade batter and fresh homemade fries...........and all cooked to perfection. We've been looking for several years for a consistantly good fish & chip place..... "THIS IS IT".........If you are looking for the... More

Nice little place. I heard it was nice so I have tried their fish and chips, burger...it was good as I heard and it was a bit pricey as I heard. Will be back though.

This is the best takeout in Nanaimo. The prices are higher, but you get what you pay for. The owners are really friendly as well. It's also great to be supporting Nanaimo's amazing downtown.

We had the cod dinner and a burger and fries. The batter on the fish was still a little doughy. The fries, although fresh made, were a little bland. The hamburger and fixin's were tasty, but sat on a tasteless whole wheat kaiser. Overall, ok, but not great. And definitely not cheap! This meal (with no drinks) was $25.

Best halibut & chips! I'm also a fan of the burgers. Pretty much all items on the menu are a hit with me.

A good place just off the downtown area for takeout, fish and chips, burgers etc. Located on Prideaux, just south of Comox Road, about a block west of Tim Hortons. Street parking available. One can choose to eat on picnic tables outside the cook area or take out. Staff is friendly and down to earth. Try the halibut more expensive... More

Having looked all over Nanaimo for really great Fish and Chips - have found them at this take out/patio restaurant in Nanaimo. The couple running this business are great, with friendly service, the lady even jumped up to put our meals on without finishing her own meal. Very popular with the local people. Do try the homemade ice tea, it... More

We have been eating the burgers and fish and chips from Old City Takeout for the past eight months. Jim and Mary are consistent and take great pride in their food and service. Not only do they have the best bacon cheddar burger in Nanaimo, but it is one of the best burgers we have ever had. Their fish and... More

The fish is cooked to perfection and the batter is light and not a bit greasy. The chips are cooked to just the perfect crispness and again, not a bit greasy. Coleslaw is crisp and fresh and super delicious. Haven't tried to burgers yet because I can't resist the fish and chips. The people who own the business are super... More
